Is stuff like this essentially only possible on LAN and with a high quality GameCube controller? I play slippi with an Xbox controller and it feels like every input is buffered lmao. Even offline.

the issue is probably your xbox controller, idk how the polling rate is on those and not having an octagonal gate is gonna make a lot of stuff less consistent (especially if you're playing wirelessly).

easily possible on slippi everything here, it's just the controller (buffered inputs, low poll rate, delay etc from it) and lack of skill, I recommend you get a mayflash GameCube adapter and any official 1st party NintendoGameCube controller, recommend a t3 stickbox but doesn't matter much, she's played many years thousands of hours, none of this is really easy to do lol,

From my testing its around 1-3 frame extra input lag (so its still considerably better then ultimate), depending on all the factors the others said. So i'll second what the rest say and try to get a 4port mayflash, or a Nintendo adapter. Along with a first party Gamecube controller. However Xbox controller or PS4 controller works fine, It's not a bad idea to use it for awhile to decide if you wanna invest in more suited gear
