Another important thing about G&W's dtilt is that it doesn't hit people in the air. At all. If you are one micrometer above the ground the move will miss because it is programmed to not be able to hit characters in an "in air" status. This means that sometimes although drag down nair into dtilt kills, nair can sometimes pop the opponent up a little tiny bit and the move won't hit, so game and watch players prefer to go for ftilt instead because the rng of it just not working is unfortunate

Fun Mac Facts. So dtilt has a shoulder hitbox that we call "Dempsey tilt" that allows it to combo into things like utilt, jab, upb and more. It's cool but it's kinda hard to get. It's so nice for platform tech chases as well since if you fast fall on the plat and go for a dtilt you can cover almost every tech option with the same timing and go for like dtilt, dtilt, side b/upb. The fast fall is frame perfect kinda and the tech is called "fast land." The trample is so cool to it's just funny beating out attacks with it. I was surprised it was up so high though tbh but I feel if it was on a character with bigger aerials you can do better things. Loving the lists and can't wait for the neutral b list.

Honestly Esam you are so on point. Fox mains love to call their character bad. Oh my recovery is so bad. Oh I died at 50. Okay but Fox UP B goes literally so far that you can afford to recover from a place where most characters can't even reach you and Fox isn't the only character that can die at 50. Your character literally has some of the best frame data in the game, can react to every tech due to your movement speed on the ground, can make 17 attempts to hit the opponent In the air and still be on the ground waiting to catch landings and has one of the best up smashes in the game that confirms from one of your best safe aerials and 900 options you have that lead to tech chase. It's crazy

If you're wondering why shoto dtilt feels like it's -2, it's because you can cancel into another dtilt 7 frames early. Combined with autoturn and special cancelling, most characters have to jump out, maybe roll away if their backward roll is f4 or if dtilt's stale. Even f5 armor like Ike up-b doesn't win when it's stale, if the shoto cancels into focus on reaction.

Good list. I think Falco's D-Tilt is pretty good, esp post patch. Combos into many of his other moves like F-air and N-air, has pretty ridiculous range (on par w/ swordies), and kills, which is useful for a neutral move & when he can't land his normal combos. Probably better on Falco than it is on other characters due to his high jump, but I still think its one of his best moves.

You say down tilt is one of the best moves overall in the game, and you have Falcon's in top tier when for a reason it's one of if not his least used move. You almost never see it used when it's not just for killing someone right at the ledge at a high percent, and even then it's pretty uncommon to see a Falcon land it there. I'm pretty sure the only time Fatality actually used it against you was when you were at 116% right at the ledge in Game 3, and just in general you almost never see him use it. It just seems very wrong to have Snake's down tilt an entire tier below when it's almost twice as fast, actually does more damage, has more range (I think?), pancakes on frame 1, and just has infinitely more situations to use it effectively. Falcon down tilt also only barely reaches at ledge, a lot of character's ledge hangs actually avoid it and you almost never see a Falcon 2 frame with it considering it's frame 11 and is only active for 2 frames.

Actually, as a DDD main, down tilt is really good like REALLY good, usable in neutral, combos et obviously edgeguarding, it does it all, the only flaws it's that it is a commit, but the angle can make some degenerate shenanigans, like down tilt, missed tech, jab-> forward smash, 0% to fucking exploded on light characters

Zelda's Dtilt is good, it's just most people don't even bother how to even use it. It combos into her Kicks, granted you're fast enough (it's more precise than it looks), and it does combo into Dash Attack and lower to mid percents.

So Greninja's downtilt is actually not bad at low percent: At super low percent (0-10% ish) it combos into dash attack, itself, jab, and ftilt. At any low percent (>40%) it combos into ftilt and jab so to me it's actually a decent low percent move that guarantees at least 15%. At mid percents I usually go for dtilt into RAR bair, ftilt, or ff nair(if i can). At high percents it combos into upsmash, bair, fair, nair(dont do nair), and dragdown up air (if opponent has hbox di). At super high percents it combos into double jump fair (tight window) and up air(tight window). Objectively, I think it should be near the bottom of the B-B-Busted tier especially since fox and sheik's dtilts are in there (although I do acknowledge sheik's dtilt is a bit better).

Okay, ESAM is COMPLETELY WRONG about Jr’s DTilt. First of all, it’s frame fucking 4 and has decent range. It’s not THAT unsafe to hit (-11) and it’s good for tech chases. The reason that move sucked is ‘cause of it’s inconsistency. Like Marth tipper lvl. But after the buffs, it’s a really good OOS move you can hit on low characters, a techchase tool that sends kinda low and helps jr get another techchase situation, which is scary ‘cause side b kills you at 70. And I’m sure other characters would be able to do much with this move. It’s still kinda only a mixup for jr, ‘cause he has frame 4 killing jab. But that has nothing to do with the move itself

According to pjiggles, if you hit someone at low percent you have to shield or the opponent can attack you or trade with you and at like 40 percent on Mario the only follow up is one up air

I still think the other sliding downtilts, sephiroth, joker, and cloud, are all applicable for the same benefits as min min. They all cross up shield pretty consistently and are fast low profiles that cover so much ground. Min Mins combos harder, but they all are menaces in neutral, and are almost impossible to challenge. Also Esam has ptsd from Light confirmed. Falco's downtilt IMO is better than fox's because of the launch angle, kills, and is safer on shield by 3-4 frames. Its no contest between the two. I think Light just nails the down tilt - backair combos really well, and it does a lot of damage

I feel like he’s underestimating Dedede’s down tilt. It is an approach option, deals decent damage, can KO, 2-frame, and has good startup so it can be used like a dash attack when combined with it moving him forward, with the only real problems being strangely small hitboxes and sometimes (not completely sure on this flaw) being unsafe on shield. But hey at least you didn’t say it’s bad, then I’d have been mad (hey, that rhymes 😂)…

Marth dtilt is better than Lucina's, no tipper after 90ish for most characters puts into tech chase and at that percent Lucina's stops comboing (sliding f tilt paired with that is a great for tech chasing). As a Marth main it's very common to have people not di correct because they don't react to getting hit since it's a fast move. I'm telling you ESAM within the year people's mind are gonna be changing about Marth. Keep up the great content btw.

I personally would have put clouds down tilt over jokers because his knee has intangibility for the majority of the move and joker’s doesn’t. Also it comes out on frame 7 as opposed to joker’s frame 8. The one thing that joker’s has over cloud’s is that it’s -22 on shield while cloud’s is -26, but even then I still think cloud’s is much better. I also think that while min mins down tilt is a bit better than cloud’s, it’s not an entire tiers worth better, because her down tilt is frame 10 as opposed to cloud’s 7, and although it does have some leg intangibility, it’s not nearly as much and as long as clouds. Min mins is slightly better though still because it’s -18 as opposed to cloud’s -26. Even with this, it is still a great list, keep up the good work esam!

Robin dtilt has one notable use, it's Robin's best way to hold onto book/sword ejects. Dtilt starts and ends quickly, doesn't burn resources, and pulls your hurtbox down. Even if you run out of uses, if you keep doing moves without returning to idle you won't eject the item, so you can chain together dtilts to framekill until you want to do something like grab, book release, throw. Not a great use, and a use other good dtilts could fill while doing everything else they do, but hey it is used for something i guess.

I get this is in a vacuum but every combo that was shown for Pit D-tilt was not true. To be fair it can go into Fair and Bair with correct execution don't know why it was point blank di in. But Dair can only frame trap at best off a D-tilt. And yes D-tilt -> Grab was a thing but when they "buffed" the move in 8.0 they changed it in a way that removed that combo. When it did work though it was only a thing against characters of fall speed 1.6 or higher.

I think you somewhat underrated Ganon dtilt. Sure, it's not great, but I think it's better than his smash attacks (or at least more widely useful). It also has mad hitstun, kills at like 135, and it's HUGE. It also has some use as a low-percent combo starter. Well, at least as much as Ganon can be said to have combos. Dtilt > dash attack > nair is a thing at 0 sometimes.

Can't particularly argue with ROB players being lazy, but it is a lot easier to get results with just cheesing ROB related bullshit than getting good at the game than most characters. Consistent pivots take skill, the stuff it takes to spam ROB related bs doesn't exactly take the same technical proficiency to say the least.

Ken can 0-shield break with his dtilt into grab, crescent kick. Or as Ryu, collarbone breaker for shield break. Followed up with focus shoryu, I see it way better than the characters above them. SF characters are basically dtilt the character.

Sad how zelda in smash 4 actually had an incredibly good down tilt and good neutral air as well, but now in ultimate both moves are just average

Robin d tilt is unreactable so it's actually a really good tool to poke at shields and then press a button or spot dodge. It's utility is limited, but it definitely isn't bad by any means. It's one if their few options up close that is quick enough to be a really annoying get off me
