Really sad to hear this maister, hope you can make it through and find happiness. Unfortunately us humans aren't really equipped emotionally to deal with the sheer amount of voices talking about us that public figures have nowadays. It's probably a cliche thing to say, but I would highly recommend seeing a therapist. I had a totally unrelated problem to the one you're having, but seeing a therapist helped bring me back from a low low point in my life, I think everyone can highly benefit from seeing a therapist that works for them.

Big fan of your work Maister. As a Game & Watch main since Brawl, you are the guy that put this character out into the meta and onto the map, I see you as an inspiration. People would hate on you and your accomplishments but 99/100 if that person tried solo-maining the second lightest character in the game into the opponents that you have beaten, they would get so fucking bodied it isn't even funny. Your true fans know that you are one of the most mechanically skilled players in the world. I always tune into the tournaments to watch your runs. I think because you are hated so much it galvanizes my support for you even more. Very often you've got the crowd against you, you've got the casters against you, you've got the match-up against you and that's what makes the aspect of you winning so much more hype. That's how anti-heroes are formed, and if/when you win that super major, the W will only be that much more epic. Even if the whole place is booing you when the confetti drops - you become a legend. Use the flames of hatred to temper and sharpen the edge of your blade. First and foremost, do whatever you have to do for your own mental health. That comes before everything. When you are feeling yourself and on top of your game I think you have what it takes to defeat any opponent.

Smash community has dumb kids/teenagers and also people who never fully matured who just throw random comments of hate. I never understood how come people just downplay someone’s talent in a game just because of the character they main or play style, ya maybe you might not like it but also gotta appreciate their talent in the game. I heard if you have nothing positive to say then why say it. There’s already too much negativity in this world.

Fr, I for one don't like Steve's gameplay but I'm not going to go into the top Steve players DMs just to say awful things to them. People just need to take a step back and realize that sending death threats or hate towards anyone over a game is beyond childish and makes them infinitely worse than whoever it is they're hating on. It's also extremely messed up how someone like Onin who is something like 16 years old probably gets insane hate. I couldn't imagine dealing with that kind of thing at that age and it baffles me how literally anyone can think it's ok to click send on a hurtful message towards someone who isn't even an adult, especially when the person sending the message is over 18 themselves.

Smash suceeds at being one of the most toxic esports communities and its due to all the factors Maister laid out. We saw the hate with Armada, we saw it with Hbox, we saw it with ZeRo, and we've even kind of seen it with MkLeo. Spectators need to be able to remember there is still a human behind that esports persona. Not every top player is trying to be a villain, some just want to compete in their favorite game. I think another problem is that smash is so grassroots and it's a little bit too personal between the players and the fans. There is a conversation that needs to be had to address the grassroots scene and how it affects the relationships between top players and fans.
@boxcart4533 Жыл бұрын
I feel like a villain ONLY IN THE GAME is kinda healthy for the game prime example being hbox in 2019 having someone to root against statistically increases viewership(not saying hbox deserved the amount of hate he got, he is imo the most hated smash player of all time and it wasn’t okay) But the moment the hate gets away from the game and discrediting them as a person? Then it gets f**ked up

It was so great when the crowd was shouting Sora's moves in your final, you even got the confettis. To be sure, part of it was the crowd not pleased with Steve winning, but still the same. Probably my best Smash moment ever, very heartwarming

It sucks that you receive this much hate from the community. I think we tend to forget that the Top players are humans too and the hate that goes around in the community is borderline insane. It also sucks that people downplay you even though you've been consistently placing high for YEARS. While the hate will always be a part of the community (just cause of the nature of e-sports) hopefully everyone will get more and more comfortable speaking out on it and we'll get to a happy middle as a community

Y ya es historico que tu hayas hecho que Mr game sea un personaje temido en las manos correctas. Saludos desde Panamá 🇵🇦

Smash players really need to learn the phrase "Don't hate the player, hate the game." Cause all of these hate being put on the players is going to heavily damage the health game at best or outright kill it at worse. The former would most likely just kill it anyways.

@gregwarrener4848 Жыл бұрын
lmao i totally remember the 'carried' argument about your gameplay. it is ridiculous because game and watch was considered bottom tier until you started showing results. the smash community is known to be stinky and toxic also known to be biased and incapable of critical thinking on their own. as far as mango goes, he has been a sloppy drunk for years now, to the point of where taking anything he says seriously is a fault of the viewer. don't get me wrong though armada definitely has some character flaws of his own. as a person who has been in treatment for alcoholism to the point that i have substance abuse disorder, i am grieved to find out that armada is struggling with this disease. he deserves better! its too bad that sadly your video will not make a difference in the toxic nature of this community. then again, a toxic attitude is encouraged in all competitive scenes for most sports. i think the best thing to do is to try and see the haters as WWE fans who are just trying to exhale/ get their anger out in a manor that doesn't effect their day to day life. most sports stars do become punching bags for people to get their stress out unfortunately, but twitter culture takes it to the next level.
@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569 Жыл бұрын
I think in an ideal world what Mango was saying about Armada wouldn't have resulted in anything too major as Armada would just be able to ignore what one person is saying and people would just write it off as beef similar to what you see in the WWE and not get personally involved. But since we live in a wacky world where if any person with a notable following says anything negative about someone else with a notable following, then fans take that as a sign to flood DMs and say horrible shit. Not saying Mango is not at fault as he clearly is, but at the end of the day, if it weren't for toxic fans then this likely wouldn't have been an issue to begin with.

Your talent is undeniable, and I can’t imagine how hard it must be to receive so much hate, but just know you have so many people who love you and cheer you on. Also, understand that there are lots of miserable pricks with little to no social skills who hate their own shitty lives so they have to cope and spread their own self hatred towards others who definitely don’t deserve it. Just know those people aren’t going anywhere in life and they are literally worthless to you! They’re so invested in this video game (which is crazy because they’re fucking shit at it) to the point where their main goal is to spread hate. They say they don’t care about smash but it lives in their heads rent free. So do you. Your success bothers complete failures who wish they could be anywhere near as talented as you. Good luck Maister. It doesn't take a magnifying glass to see this community's cesspool of an underbelly. Sure, this community can be very cool, but it doesn't mean much when everybody acts the way they do about the things they find annoying. Whether it comes to character play styles, strategies, character discussions, or even the players themselves.The most toxic aspect of the community will rear its ugly head no matter what. I hope you'll be able to bounce back from this with something positive.

I just keep my ssbu circle small and keep my interactions with the community minimal, but i can only imagine how hard it must be to avoid the toxicity as a top player. Hope you dont go too soon and see you win a major bc you deserve it
@SuperHalo-rn4rr Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the character hate in smash is one of the oddest things in the community to me. Sometimes it comes off as a literal "Big Brother" mentality, where the older kid is like "That character is for babies, you can't play that character." and then everyone else kind of mimics it..but instead it's literal adults with smash. It gets to the extreme when they start hating a person simply for playing the character and then bashing them. But what makes it even weirder is, Smash often gets bashed by other FG communities for being considered a party game or "lame", and everyone fights tooth and nail for otherwise. Then the community itself does a full 360 and "lame-ify" any character that they either didn't grow up with, isn't on what they think a "god-tier" character is, or have a personal bias against. Like it's one thing to not like a character, it's another to think it's okay to hate a person for playing the character or just outright bashing them because a player with said character won or beat someone with them. Smash I always felt was supposed to be a game for everyone, people gatekeeping just makes it feel less so sometimes.
@aegishdaego Жыл бұрын
From France, i do think that peoples here respect you a lot. Even tho for the show we like to say that you're like the 2nd GateKeeper. When dabuz protect the gate of the PGR, you protect the gate of the super top player, the same tier as Leo, Tweek, Sparg0 or even the best of them all, GLUTONNY POUND 2022 STYLE. Anyways, hopefully i wasn't rude in my comment as it isn't my attention at all and you will recover from this sht and be more happy than ever, with or without smash. After all your life is more important that what some twitter dude thinks about your potential legacy.

I honestly never knew Melee had such a toxic community. I thought they were better than ultimate. Especially since the game has has out for a longer time and I would have thought the community would be more reformed. If you are good then you are good. You aren't carried, the others just can't beat you. I am gonna be honest, I hate watching you play game and watch, but it doesn't mean I should ghost you or make your life miserable. You are a human being after all and this is a game. Play who you enjoy and if you beat people then good for you. I feel like the rise of social media is what makes communities toxic. Just don't look at haters, they are salty because you beat their fatherly figure after their father left for milk. You and every other smash player can be better at rejecting hate and I appreciate the fact that you made a video talking about it and starting with yourself.
