I'm convinced any character can find success in this game given the right player who can mesh with their moveset and attributes and play them at an adept level. I think that's also a crazy sentiment given the previous smash games's history of balancing lol

that simply isn't true nobody is doing anything at top level with dr.mario, ganon, isabelle, mac or ddd. The few that did in the past are falling off for a reason. Low tiers can do well but you're definitely holding yourself back if you play them, if you wanna be good you should be playing characters that are at least mid tier, and if you're playing at top level you should probably have a top/high tier secondary. It's cool banjo got good results, but make no mistake he sucks and you cannot get results with any character in this game, once you get to high level you have to the skill. There's a reason this rarely happens, it's impressive but he also didn't get top 8.

I think people genuinely don't like Banjo because he doesn't have a combo game haha. Like next to nothing true converts into anything. It's very understandable. But look at him! He's about as fast and heavy as Ridley...without being Ridley! When he dashes he's in someone's face immediately! He doesn't need a good air game or frame data because he's got disjointed moves that cover a bunch of space! Banjo isn't weak; he just doesn't feel natural to play whatsoever. You need to play neutral as much as a zoner, but without their immediate long-range projectiles. But that doesn't make him bad - just look at his kit!

But I loved banjo for his interesting hybrid play style that allows him to take advantage of projectiles for zoning and Chip damage to build percent well also enabling some really fun combos when you're ready to scrap

None of them were meme picks though. Remember that Smash's competitive playerbase is a very, VERY small portion of the overall playerbase. The grand majority simply play the game for the casual Nintendo (now video gaming) fighting game crossover. Next to nobody was wanting them in to take them to major competitive events; they wanted them in just so they could be in at all.

Agreed. He is like a low high tier (which is like a 40-50 best character) he is just harder than most other characters because of how much more neutral he demands. It makes him a bad secondary and he does not have the match up spread to make it worth trying to pilot him for most people. Japan had mad respect for this character in the 1st tier list. All the other regions just snubbed him from being considered viable.

The problem with banjo is just how clunky he is to play vs other characters. If you didn't need to B reverse every grenade egg or do weird movement to pick it up, you could almost take snake skills and apply them to Banjo and it'd work. But with that move being so integral to his neutral and being one of the clunkiest and different moves to use out of the whole cast, its a problem. Yeah diddy's banana has the same quirk, but diddy can grab it effortlessly with a short hop, while banjo's is a bit too heavy for him and his poor air drift makes it akward. Add in the long startup and limited use of wonder wing and his very slow drift, and he just feels weird to play. Hes not weak, wonder wing can 2 frame a fair amount of characters for free and guarantee a kill if you manage to get them offstage as early as 50%. (Although not to the top tiers.) but that down B being so clunky really hurts him. The egg would need to bounce higher or come out like snake's B to really see him get more use.

I was a day one Banjo main. I mained him through high school, and got my school to 6th in a Utah State tournament in 2021. I was determined to not play campy, and to rarely use wonderwing. Until my hiatus from the game altogether, I mained banjo and pocketed K Rool. Most all my games were played with Banjo, and I saw really good results with Ness, Sonic, Mario, and fellow zoner characters. Really struggled with Roy, Captain Falcon, and oddly enough Donkey Kong. I don't remember the MU chart off the top of my head, but I don't believe it follows those trends really well. I returned to Smash slightly, but not to the competitive scene. I have not hardly ever touched Banjo since, and almost don't want to. The amount of shit I'd get for playing Banjo, and how limited he sometimes felt with his speed, high-damage, and breathing room really hurt. K Rool became my fulltime main and has been since. I really do miss Banjo a lot, I have a soft spot for him in my heart, and hope he gets a better moveset in the next game. I'm super glad to see someone actually use him too.

Adding to that he doesn’t have much gimmicks to his fighting style as a DLC character but Wonder wing. He plays faithful to the game series. Banjo & Kazooie play traditional like they were meant to be in the base smash roster many games ago. That’s why I love the way they play. Banjo Kazooie main here from Day 1.

Honestly Smash Remix Banjo is what I wanted Smash Ultimate Banjo to be, don't get me wrong, I bought a Switch and Smash Ultimate because of Banjo's inclusion in the first place and I still main them and love playing as them, but if Ultimate Banjo was more like Smash Remix Banjo I'd probably play Ultimate way more.

I honestly think Banjo has the most unlocked potential than any character in the game. I wish a top player would pick him up and put the time I have into Banjo, over 6k matches online, then see the results! I’ve sadly never played an offline match with Banjo 😢

BK were the only good DLC choices because they're the only ones who look like they even FIT in Smash Bros. I guess Xenoblade girls and Byleth kinda fit too, but those were wasted slots more than anything. BTW, BK are UK creations, so if anything it's for us Brits and not you yanks.

@@Don11037 Banjo needs to be very patient and attack when the opponent makes a mistake or be campy if Banjo can't find an opening. He's kinda like Sonic in a sense. In Banjo Tooie, boss fights are about running away from the bosses until they expose themselves. It also take about 6 mins to beat the Hag 1 in Banjo Tooie as well. Also Banjo's nair can sometimes damage characters on shield. One trick I discovered is that Banjo can edge guard with nair, and if Shockspring jump isn't enough he can use Wonderwing to make it back on stage.
