Technically speaking he does have that power, his warp star just has to exceed its current top speed to teleport and usually follows with the warp star crashing on impact, happens a bunch of times in his games. Pretty accurate given the scene where he escapes the death rays.

And it seems like (sakuri does something important cliche) kirby is the only hope and probably main protagonist in saving everyone (is here!). Who knows maybe in the (subspace emissary) single player campaign/mode there will be a secret fighter that joins the battle at the end of it all (I'm betting it will be geno or banjo kazooie or both).
