M.A.D. Hype Actually, on top of my previous idea what about add into Little Mac a small mechanic where he becomes harder to being knocked back when he’s on land and becomes normal weight in air. It’s mostly trying to follow Sakurai’s ideology of keeping in theme of Mac being a boxer and boxers usually gain their strength and fortitude on their movement on land, so it’s not far fetched that Mac has one of the better innate knowledge on how to keep his balance and how to throw his weight/force whilst in a neutral position. It’s like how Link has a nigh invincible block to all projectiles when he’s in neutral. Something like that, but less situational and more viable. He’d be around the same meme level fantastic as K. Rool.

You know, you can't fly, god forbid double jump. Can't stay underwater for long or punch stone, but you sure as hell can somehow carry the weight of a building on you. Mac is meant to be the underdog anyways. His ground game is strong, as is his nature as a boxer. For the sake of balance he probably has to have the other tools the other cast gets, because he gave up his most powerful ability when he ported to Smash from punch out. The ability to move in 3d, in effect removing his slips and weaves T-T

This might sound obvious, but you need to think like your character when you play him. Little Mac is all about ground movement, ducking and landing sneaky punches, Nintendo understood that, and these guys definitely understood it as well.

Nintendo understood the concept of no aerial game and being sneaky, but Little Mac has never been a character that relied on Strength and Super Armor. He is probably the weakest fighter in his own games, instead relying on being faster and sneaking in. Star Punches are much more iconic than the KO punch, and Little Mac also relies on stunning opponents to land a barrage of mosquito punches. Little Mac is not well represented in Smash Bros.

@@Athorment Yet he's very fast, all of his smash attacks are fast, and the strength and super armor is to balance out aspects of him that would completely horrible (and still are) for him to have. But he's built specifically to be strong, unexpected, quick. He doesn't use a ton of small punches but there's leeway when you bring a character like that into a fighting game like this. I think Sakurai and the balancing team allowed Pichu be good in this game because he's not meant to be the bad on purpose character anymore. That job has been passed on to Little Mac. The eternal Underdog.

@@StormierNik i think that "Usable, but not great" aerials would have fit Mac well. Right now they are obviously intentionally underwhelming, with all of them needing precision to even land them. Removing the super Armor, but giving him a mechanic where interrupting enemy attacks stun them for longer so that you can add a second hit would have played nicely too. Even having stuff like the Side smash variations do different things (like having one that has him dodge and punch) would have been more in character with Mac. Mac is bad because the design choices for him are horribly skewed against him. A Platform fighter where a fighter shouldn't leave the platform he is standing on? Rip Mac.

Mac can actually be really annoying. A lot of options that people use to break out of combos are completely invalidated because of how much armor his smash attacks have. He needs special scouting and practice if you want to be ale to keep him from playing his kinda game.

@lil crispy That isn't it. As much as I'd like to say it is, that's the least of his problems. Little Mac's aerials are awful. Hard to land, low damage and easy to punish. All you need to do to beat little Mac is jump or platform camp him. He also has no way to get close against projectiles. He can't jump over them without heavy risk and underwhelming rewards. On top of all that, they took away his amazing down tilt combos, his up tilt into specials and gutted his grab range from smash 4. Damn, I miss smash 4 little Mac.

One way is simple: *if there's platforms, use them to avoid projectiles.* It's honestly the best way to get around projectiles without making yourself a easy target, so use platforms when they're available to you. These are *four* tools of *Mac's own to get around projectiles:* *1. Forward Tilt:* Mac's f-tilt can negate weak projectiles, like Samus' uncharged energy beam, Ness and Lucas' PK Fire, and all Link boomerangs. It doesn't work on stronger projectiles, but it's probably Mac's best option when dealing with projectiles since it's quick and doesn't leave you totally vulnerable. *2. Slip Counter:* Not the BEST option, but still a viable one in certain situations. If it's a weak projectile or you can predict if a strong one is coming, Mac's down-b is a decent option. When triggered, Mac will go forward a bit while countering, which is also why it's a potential recovery tool if you're getting edgeguarded off-stage by projectiles since it ends quickly so that Mac can act soon after. It's good if you *DESPERATELY* need a way of getting in closer or close enough to hit an opponent, but I still wouldn't have it as my first option. Still, don't write it off. *3. Straight Lunge:* This is probably Mac's worst counter-option against projectiles as it leaves you open to more attacks, and it's not easy to use in general without setting yourself up for a rough ride off-stage because it's easy to avoid and punish. I would only ever use this against the weakest projectiles and if the other player was either not thinking at the moment, or if they were *braindead. The ONLY reason it's on here is BECAUSE it has super armor and can power through certain projectiles.* *4. Jolt Haymaker:* This is Little Mac's second-best option for avoiding projectiles, and *his best option when approaching someone who uses low projectiles.* It's basically the long-jump Olympic event where it doesn't go high, but it can go far. I can't tell you how many times I've killed Terries or seen Terries killed because they're using power wave in a corner, and then a Little Mac side-b's over it and decking Terry's last stock in the face. The punch can be thrown out sooner by pressing B again, and it's good for catching an opponent off guard if they're spamming low-hitting projectiles.

Saying this as a Mac main, you really shouldn't worry dude, just don't use your jump and you can get back fine! If ur against a character like Roy, D.K, bowser, ness, Lucas, chrom etc etc that has a recovery with a hurtbox and they don't have a jump the counter is a great edge guarding tool. If they have a jump they can mix up the timing to get around you but for example if Ness ain't got a jump and has to P.K thunder to recover low you can do this over and over again and they can't do anything but hope you mess up :)

Little mac petition!!!!!! Mains United Little mac the under dog of his own tier list. (Rework ideas) Those who main him find enjoyment in always having to give it a 110% to win a match. Now that being said nothing is more frustrating then being gimped on a new stock, or spam projectile from across the stage. I'm not saying make him the lord of the sky, I am saying if this man cant fly make him a Lord of the lands. Make his Ground game the best. Balancing Little Mac Steps 1. Give his Side B super armor so he can recover and not be gypped. That or allow him to use it again if he is hit. Followed up with up B sooner would help greatly. 2. Change his neutral B into something that can be charged and held. Giving him the ability to recover. 3. Less ending lag on his moves so that when he attacks a player and they simply shield they are not able to grab him so easily. That or make it so his moves push him farther away from his opponent. 4. Give him a special mechanic when he spot dodges, perfect shields that he gets something special that follows more with his game. ( Examples) Spot dodges= temporary faster smash attack Spot dodges= strong tilt Spot dodges= charges up for a KO punch. Perfect Shields= stronger Smash attack Perfect shields= charges up KO punch Perfect shields = more knockback Perfect shields projectile = able to shrug off one project Perfect shields multi attacks= temp gains browsers big boy perk. These are all just ideas that could be worked around or even better ideas. 5. Better frames in his dodges (Getting grabbed in mid dodge sucks....) 6. Being able to get on a platform without using two jumps. 7. A better counter that's not going to kill you if it's used in the air. Maybe make it so Little Mac automatically counters back towards the stage other then flinging him into the abyss. 8. Redoing his Up B would be amazing so he does not go into free fall when used would allow him to use his Side B and Up B to recover in different ways. 9. Less end lag when landing back on stage would allows him shield projectile better or dodge faster.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I really want Mac to be better, considering he's quite low usually in tier, but KO Punch is very gank, it feels dumb for Mac to be rewarded for being continuously punished. I'd really like his aerial game being improved, with KO punch having a bit less knockback so as to prevent really stupid, undeserved early kills and a bit less armor on his smash attacks considering how spammable they are with their frame data.

It could function just like it does in Punch-Out to reward Mac for playing well, hitting opponents during the starting frames of attacks or by beating out their attacks with his own, and punishing him for getting hit by losing a star when he takes big enough hits. My idea is when he has stars his up-B gets replaced by the Star Uppercut from Punch-Out Wii, and the more stars he has the stronger it is and higher it goes, so it can be used either to recover or as a kill move.

Down-tilt actually doesn't combo into KO Punch (or anything for that matter) unless you're a slow heavy, and only Up-Tilt combos into anything reliably. If you're beating Mac in Neutrals there's no way you should be at kill percent for KO Punch anyway. And if you are, just run from him for like 5 seconds then hit him with ANYTHING that has knock back and he'll lose it. That and Little Mac's shitty recovery means you should be able to edgeguard him and take his stock before KO Punch becomes relevant. There are so many things riding against him as a character that it surprises me people still think he's competitively good.

Seriously how do people consider little mac bad? He has literally everything that utility could ask for. Instakill at around 30%, amored smash attacks, strong smash attacks, an actual good counter, a shield breaker, an up b that does damage, and good speed. Little Mac aint even bad, he's just balanced. Little mac would be the new Meta Knight if he had a good recovery.

His up b has absolute garbage recovery potential, which is the main purpose of up b moves, and his aerials are even worse. All he’s got is quick, spammy smash attacks that are only effective because he can run fast. Considering that high level smash is very combo-heavy in the air, he’s pretty bad.

He has no aerial game in a game predicated on having a good aerial game. He has no decent recovery in a game modified so that good recoveries are rewarded. And he has no real combos, just some easily avoidable strings. This is why Mac won't ever make it out of low tier without being ridiculously overtuned. Having a decent ground game means nothing when plenty of other characters have similarly effective ground games ON TOP of decent aerial options. Little Mac has half a kit and KO Punch doesn't make up for it.

My buddy used to main MAC and I used to always challenge him with KAZUYA. It turned out to be a ritual that we always chose those 2 against each other. He was always destroying me by spamming the forward jump punch until I realized that all I have to do is bait my attack then pause, then when he forward punches I sheild then combo the hell outa him. Last time we used those 2 I won 4 games in a row. Now he does not choose MAC anymore. Btw, I needed to tactically take myself to another level in order to destroy the MAC dominance. For people getting destroyed by MAC do not feel inferior for MAC is a hassle even for pro's. Just use your mind and find a gameplan. Goodluck.

I think the first match just shows how awful Mac is. You have Sol, easily the best Mac in SSB4 up against a Palutena player who can't manually short hop or fast fall, fires off explosive flame in neutral multiple times, and it still seemed like he had to work for it. I hope they super buff this character. He's missing too much.

Little Mac is indeed a very fearsome opponent to face. You have to be able to keep the distance from him or to launch him in the air or off stage. It's veeeeery difficult. He's so bad in the air because is so scary on the ground. I don't think he deserves the low tier state, I think he's just very different to play from the other characters.
