Smashed Sylvania Roadster Street Light

This is a very reliable street light, still very common but unfortunetly slowly getting replaced. LIVE ON HPS!!

That is a tough light, amazing the actual globe survived. Would have thought the capsules inside would have popped. Been trying to find a double capsule type for the collection. Excellent job on your old gas light, looks great in the garden, hope to see your next videos.

+CAL'S ENGINEERING Thanks for the link, just ordered one of those Lamps and also received a vintage HP sodium Lamp from the States. I also scored some nice Appleton industrial explosion proof light enclosures. My old camera has died so I now have DSLR camera, just waiting for another lens so I will soon upload some videos. Thanks for sharing, definitely a very common fixture around Aus, seen so many of these around that I've lost count. Just like with the Sylvania Urban (and now StreetLED) in the streets, the roadster is commonly used fornew lighting or replacing old fixtures. I live along a main road and there used to be a bunch of old GEC mercury vapours which have been replaced by these Roadsters.

Yeah they're about the most reliable fixture after the old Mercs. Even now they're getting hit with the LEDisease plague sadly.

I saw one of those exploded and the black cover totally melted and obliterated, but the clear part still in tact. It was replaced a few days later.

Sounds like the ballast gave up the smoke!

It probably did. It was still on the pole for a few days, and still connected. I saw another one of those get taken out by a small crane near a construction site. I think they make them with a flat clear cover now, and the same with the small ones.

Yeah that's the new lens they're using on the Roadster and the Urban series street lights now. Helps cut down on light pollution and side-light the rounded lenses tend to chuck off

I put a bit of black tape on the photocell on my roadster, u could do the same, mine it s150 too made in 2005

Have you seen an optispec, those can basically fit a roadster in the lamp compartment

(Power lineman here) We have been throwing away so many of the HPS cobra head fixtures, some even new, changing out to LEDs. I've been on street light duty lately! I'd give you a couple of the old fixtures if I could Bud! Cool video and neat looking light!

You might want to repair that, the roadstar is a great street light there's a lot of those around but there slowly being replaced with low wattage LED lights called the roadLED by sylvania.

When I was a child I was always fascinated in Street lights and I always wanted to have one of them. Did light come with the AC power cord or did you wire that in yourself?
