This song is proof that having a jazz trained drummer in a rock band can absolutely help to elevate the songwriting.

Quite a few SP songs can make that claim, but this song really hammers the point home

Man I have ALWAYS loved Jimmy and I know SP wouldn't be SP without him. But I went to go see him maybe 5 years ago at Hey Nonny in Chicago, he was performing there with Frank Catalano. Seeing him in that Jazz element was amazing. Didn't think I could like or respect him more! It was so interesting to see him doing something so different than what I was used to at SP shows. Highly recommended!

You NEED to check out the live version from their "final show" at the metro in Chicago. Absolutely EPIC version of this song!!!

I second this!! I just saw them at Metro in Chicago back in September and I wish they did it. It's rare to see them do it live anymore.

This album’s production value is so good because it’s raw and has so much dynamic, you hear every ghost note and accent, whereas most rock songs are just very much on the same level throughout
@McFlurryMachineIsDown2 жыл бұрын
Yeah like modern pumpkins sound.. very bland and not much dynamics. Bad mixing by billy. He needs someone else doing his production again. I need that natural live sounding pumpkins again... Just one last album. I could only dream.

I'm glad you enjoyed this one David. It's more like your cup of tea. I hope someone asks for "X.Y.U." and "Tales of a Scorched Earth" too. They're heavy like this one.

And in terms of drumming maybe something like 'Hello Kitty Kat' or 'La Dolly Vita'? And to prove that Corgan can do something beyond a growly nasal vocal, maybe 'Obscured' or 'Whir'?

This is one of my favorite songs from SP in terms of drumming. Jimmy rushes a bit to the end. In today's music, they'd have quantized that. It adds character IMO.

Respect for the stuff about Corgans voice. Its not gonna be for everyone, but you still appreciate the musicianship and shine light on the neat stuff they do.

Musical details like song structure and dynamics were things I never knew about growing up, such as when this double album was released in the mid-‘90s. Even when I saw this band live about four years later (Easter Sunday 1999, Kent State campus) I had no real clue. So I’ve really grown to enjoy learning about the tech side of music as I’ve grown older, thanks in part to copious books, docs and reaction channels like this one. Well, as far as that show went, I remember it as a good one. Billy was kinda dressed like Pinhead from the “Hellraiser” films- it was a good look for him. From where I was sitting, I had a great view of Jimmy Chamberlain on the drums, so that was great. The only real minus point was that, scanning over top of the crowd before their set, I somehow caught sight of my ex-girlfriend with her new guy. Ack. Right then I was ready for some great music to distract me from that sight. Afterwards, I asked the girl giving me a ride home to instead drop me back near their tour buses. Thought I’d try to actually meet them. And I came close to being able to shake Billy’s hand, except for all the alt-rock girls throwing themselves at him. Jimmy was standing a bit back, so I told him was [bleep] awesome. That kind of post-show stage of heightened emotions after a rocking performance.

Jimmy killing it once again. 8.4 is a great score! Scale says it all, but to me... 1-5s = No. 6s = OK once in a while 7s = I like 8s = I'll add to my library --> active playlist 9s = Active playlist --> on repeat Was it just me or was the sound unusually muddy on this one? Really couldn't hear Jimmy's bass kick.
