For all the people complaining about how he sounds live....uhm, that's how he's always sounded. He's never had a great "live" voice but who the f&*k cares. He more than makes up for it with energy and emotion. I don't remember any of us giving a sh*t how good or bad bands sounded when performing live back in the 90's. Most sounded pretty off live.....and we loved every minute of it.
@Tomhankerus4 жыл бұрын
The energy isn't there either lmao. Shit is sad af.
@spicypotatoes3013 жыл бұрын
I'm sort of a year too late to respond since you've most likely already lost interest, but if you go to his performance in August of 1993, he sounded great, 1:1 with the actual studio version. I'm not here to complain about how he sounds now, because it's bound to happen to most if not all bands. Just look at System of A Down, Serj just doesn't have that raspy tone in his voice anymore, but he still performs. But to say he's always sounded like this is pretty ludicrous.

I think it's the tempo. If you listen to the Rockpalast 96 or Metro 93 performances, they're noticeably faster and the drums and guitar are continuously pushing the tempo making it feel more aggressive and urgent. This tempo is closer to the album and everyone is letting it drag just a tiny bit.

He seems to be using different effects from what he used back in the '90s. So much of his tone came from his fuzz pedal, and now it sounds like he's using a mid-focused overdrive. The fuzz sounds a lot better on these tunes.
