Smashing Pumpkins performed in Much Music parking lot in July 1998. I was watching from the street.

I was at this show. The full story should be mentioned here - we in the parking lot were out there waiting, being told the pumpkins may or may not be able to come out depending on whether the weather let up. These show usually ran about an hour live (there's an interview section not included here) - but this ran about 3 hours because the pumpkins basically refused to leave until they'd played for all of us waiting in the parking lot (we were standing there for several hours before the show, during the first set, and during the interview being told pretty much nothing by staff). It got to the point where they ran out of interview questions and just started running full SP music videos with minor commentary from the band in between. We didn't know what the hell was going on, but they came out and it was beautiful. On an interview that ran later, Billy said basically there was no way they were going to leave without playing for us outside. As a 14 year old budding musician at the time, that was such a revelation.

Such a great comment to put this performance in perspective. Much respect to the Smashing Pumpkins for putting on one hell of a show after so many changes and delays due to the weather.

As a long time SP fan, remember well how much this great band was played with love and respect on CFNY 102.1 - Toronto's alt-rock station. Disc jockeys loved em, fans loved em and we still do today. Bravo to a great performance here from a truly marvelous mystical magical band.

I remember this night in 1998 clearly. I wanted to watch this as it aired live on TV but i couldn't because that same night out west in Vancouver i was going to see Pearl Jam live who were in town touring behind their "Yield" album w/ Frank Black (Pixies) & the Catholics as the opening act. So before i left i popped in a videotape into my VCR & programed it to record it.

If I ever get my hands on a time machine I'm gonna be a person who abuses it by going back to some KZbin comments on some sick music, finding a few folks who would appreciate a journey, and then going back in time on a tour of all the concerts. All the good ones at least 😏 ..since I'm the guy bringing the machine, first stops are gonna be very Pumpkiny 😎

Hey!!! Anyone else notice he looks RIGHT AT D'arcy just before he sings the lines "we can't help but feel / that something has been lost" It's just after the camera guy almost tries to get in his face And he playfully pushes the cameraman down... and almost as if he had a foot on the stage or something he kinda spins around to do a 360 and ends up facing down d'arcy... anyway, I just say this because I've seen SP so many times he def glances at people and things from time to time... but to me at least, this looked Ike more than just a glance. Anyone else catch it? Or lol that famous video of by starlight where she hits a wrong note and he FUCKING GLARES at her like "how VERY dare you!?" I think it's a show where Billy may have worn a tie .. In case anyone should care to find it. Anyway curious if anyone else notice these things and might even possibly agree

I've always wondered why Billy wanted to do this faster harder version of Ava Adore an not the album version? I love the album version but I dig how they were performing it too. Maybe since the album was mostly slower songs to please a live audience he wanted to change this one? Who knows, I doubt that he hated playing it live though. I haven't actually watched a lot of SP performances from after Machina til about Oceania. Did they perform Ava Adore very much or was it hardly included in shows?
