@dragonborn404510 жыл бұрын
my thoughts exactly. d'arcy embodies 90's alternative culture. but all eras aside (as to not pigeonhole the band as a nostalgia group), the original lineup had the vibe of an actual band, each member adding their own character into the mix.

It probably struck me more at the time since the kids in the car were actually 15 and 16 when they filmed it, and I was learning to drive. Now, it makes me wish I was friendlier to the (then) kids who went out of their way to be nice to me, instead of being flaky over my own insecurities.

It's great that they used drum machine along with live drummer during 1979 performance. 1979 only works because of this sampled or programmed breakbeat drums that are basis for this track. I hate all the later live performances of 1979 where they use live drumming only and different tempo. 1979 supposed to have this electronic breakbeat. Without it it's not the same. Whole point of 1979 is this addition of electronic beats and sampled "aah" vocals. It gives track its futuristic and progressive sound that marked mid to late 1990s.

Solid Smashing Pumpkins fan here! I love their music and their style and Billy Corgans distinct voice. Brings me back to 1993.

Who's seeing Pumpkins on their reunion tour this year? I'M GOING betches! 😁🤗 But I'll really miss D'arcy. Her and Billy's little sissy feud on the internet is like a dagger through my fucking heart 😦

Ya, it's not a reunion w/o D'Arcy
@PhilosophyofGuitar4 ай бұрын
@@stuartewoldt1513 It was though! James Iha was there! And there was a girl that looked just like D'Arcy. Sure it would've been better with the real D'Arcy but that's still one of the best shows I've ever been to! I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was awesome!

The naked man and Billy immediately knew: Disconnected fits so perfect to the situation..let him even work harder on that one.

haha. yeah. but it didn't seem to me that he even noticed the guy. I think D'arcy told him after. He wasn't even looking. Still, it was funny as hell. Ewww: dude's gross-ass bush. haha.

I saw them at the Forum in LA in ‘96 during the Mellon Collie tour back in college. Then I saw them again at the forum in 2018. Made me feel old since I needed ear plugs and I was watching the clock the whole time because I had work the next day😢

So glad i saw them a few times when they were like this. Ive been to a lot of gigs, but the power generated by their music was something quite awesome to behold

You know one of my college buddies turned me on to Smashing Pumpkins and he said listen to that which was Gish and I was blown away because to me they didn’t sound like anyone else. Billy’s vocals were very unique, his and James guitar 🎸 playing very original and inspirational, Darcy with her own ice Queen vibe, and Jimmy’s very unique approach to playing aggressively and then quietly and then amazing dexterity with ghost notes on the snare and toms with jazz flavoring! So to sum up they didn’t sound like any group at their time not grunge, soft rock, not alternative, not Progressive rock just their own unique sound which was unheard before ala Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix where right of the Shute as a listener you were going what’s this? I don’t know but I like this! Saw the Gish tour and then Siamese Dream tour as part of LOLLAPOLOOZA! Love the guys! I do miss Darcy though! Just sayin 💔

This shit is perfect. And people shouldn't compare old stuff with new stuff. I've seen Pumpkins last month and they were as perfect as this, different, but same feelings. Don't understimate new band members.
