I'm an autistic girl, formally diagnosed, and I do not see why claiming to be neurodiverse is so desirable. It's not some special world of magic and rainbows. You have short comings that make it difficult to cope compared to others. Biological differences in the brain brought about by over or under development, resulting in atypical function, which is usually dysfunction, except in certain circumstances that result in savant ability, usually at high cost. Like any other immutable factor, ability should not be judged upon it. It does not make you any more or any less likely to be better than anyone else. Only evidence in action can confirm such a thing. Being neurodivergent has become a fashion statement. A trendy badge that allows special access into the most desirable clubs, much like any other difference other than being a straight, white man. It's not fun, it's not trendy and its not something that makes you special. Different does not automatically equal better. It's the person that you are, who you choose to be, that does that. I don't need a pedestal to vindicate me and I dont want to be pointed out as different, vulnerable, and resource heavy amongst my peers. I want to fit in and function with minimal cost to the people I care about and society, a useful gear in the machine, not one that thinks the machine should be built around it. People are so desperate to be considered 'special' nowadays, resulting in shameless self promotion and these empty personality short cuts. No wonder today's standard of writing has become so painfully shallow. It's not about connection anymore. Not about how the colours of the paint swirl, Interact and mix. Instead it's a slop of heavy handed strokes from a very limited pallet.

I am officially diagnosted too and it sucks. One month last year my boss underpaid me by 250€ and I never had the courage to ask him about it, I feel so weak and stupid... I know we're focusing on the race swap, but can we take a moment to talk about how BAD the animation looks. This does not look like an animated series backed by marvel and Disney, it looks like a cutscene from a low budget indie game. When I was watching the trailer I was half expecting a telltale games style prompt to randomly appear, like the character's movements looked rigid and unnatural constantly.

I have Dyslexia, was diagnosed when I was a 12, there wasn't anything tricky about it. I saw a neurologist and was diagnosed, simple, all her tricky diagnosis sounds like to me is bullshit. Never met a person who had an actual diagnosed disability that led with identifying themself as such, I have one leg and the only time I even talk about it is with other amputee's or medical professionals. It's nobody else's business and I have no issue with reminding them of it.

people like this journalist mention their diagnoses because they want societal norms to change so that they receive special treatment without even asking for it, when in fact noone owes anything to anyone. When a person has a disability, or even just a temporary problem the only ones who usually help are close family and friends if there are any and they do it do it of their own volition. That's why having family and close friends and building social circle is so beneficial.

Being black, I don't deal with pandering. I don't like gender, race, or orientation swapping a character. You brough up great points. The only time I'm good with changes is based off of obvious factors: 1) the character is ORIGINAL; 2) the character is of a different universe like Nick Fury in the Ultimate universe. As someone that has been diagnosed with ADHD after struggling for over 30 years with the condition, but not understanding why I find so many things so difficult. Also as someone who has raised 2 children with diagnosed autism. I do find it personally offensive when people become self appointed spokespeople for conditions they have not been properly diagnosed with. Not saying she is not neuro divergent. It's even funnier because they literally went and raceswapped Harry and Norman Osborne the most unsypathetic and unredeemable villians, but brilliantly written characters. The whole push for people of colour not being villians is pushed out the window it seems. But then I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow make a psychopath like Norman and to a lesser extent Harry sympathic and redeemable which literally goes against the characters motivations. But then comic book characters can be really dumb so I guess it could work as Norman has bullcrapped around the goblin not being him multiple times when they are one in the same (split personality was a way to cope). But you just know they are gonna write it absolutely atrociously and not stick to how Norman does it in the comics. Basically make it inorganic to the plot.

Right at the start I need to make a correction, as a diagnosed person. (mild ASD) Getting a diagnosis is NOT tricky. Especially today it's actually fairly easy.
