A lot of indie game devs I follow are either college students or a guy with a laptop that wants to make a game, the similarity between the two? They're both passionate about making games, so even though the development of the game can be slow, you can see the growth of those game developers, those are the developers that are worth it to support using patreon or any of those services. If a guy with a laptop can make a game why can't these people with a full blown game development studios? Lack funds? Start flipping burgers then! Support should not be obligatory, it should be discretionary.

With the big names just continuously and voluntarily shooting themselves in the foot, this is the perfect time for indie devs and studios. All you gotta do is just stay away from TDS and just focus on making games that people want to play. Just look at Balatro. A God damn card game, FFS. And regardless, it still managed to get nominated for GOTY. Something completely unprecedented until then in videogame history for that kind of game. If the people behind Balatro got their game to get nominated for GOTY, so can anyone.

I'll never understand why anyone would work with a "narrative consulting firm." Just hire your own writers. It's not only cheaper, but you have more control over the narrative. Imagine the money they would have saved by simply not working with Sweet Baby Inc. It just baffles me. Solar Ash isn't even a bad game, although you can tell it was Sweet Baby that made the main character a girl boss instead of a fish out of water (which would have been more appropriate for the story in my opinion). But the game was $40 on release and it's BARELY 5 hours. There's no way people are paying 40 dollars for a 5 hour game (and that's with cutscenes included in the runtime). I can't help but feel Sweet Baby did nothing but contribute to bloating the price of the game. Had the game launched at $20, and without Sweet Baby's endorsement, I'm certain the studio would be in a much better place.

That is because those consultants have convinced the industry that only they know the right path through the minefield that is DEI… which is true in a way, since they were involved in placing those very mines. And it’s not just the gaming industry; it’s common practise across every sector. You have to admire the balls on those consultants: they chose to fight for a cause, and ended up lining their pockets doing so. These people often whine about “gatekeeping” in gaming, but they are the ultimate example of that.

they made hyper light drifter (a masterpiece) and solar ash (a rlly good game). theyve already made great products that their fans have loved. their new upcoming game hyper light breaker has many trailers and was announced a good time ago. as much as i hate sweet baby inc and zoe quinn, i cant change the fact that this is one of my favorite developers. i wish people werent so tribal with these issues and looked at more than if the guy has painted nails or not.
