Amit Punjani if the teeth are dull you usually back it off to get the shavings out. If u have good teeth you should cut your threads in one shot

@madmike9398
@madmike9398 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dunkdamonk nah you break the chips to PREVENT the dies from dulling. It puts more strain on the threads and dies when you cut it in one go with a manual threader. If you have an electric threader with a brace bar for the dies, you probably also have an oil catch pan and an oil gun. With an oil gun, you have enough lubrication to cut it in one go. Otherwise, back the threader off to break the chips.

Can this be done on a pipe when the current external threads are almost rusted till they are gone or look like no threads are on it.
@inactive67
@inactive67 Жыл бұрын
Yes but your pipe will be shorter, you need material to cut. If you need it the same length cut down put a coupliing and buy a pipe nipple of appropriate length to bring back to proper length.

Not galvanized but hot dipped in zinc. Galvanizing is always via electrolysis. Also you threaded to far. The die should be flush with the end, or else the end will be cylidrical if its threaded to far.
@1992jamo

"Galvanizing is always via electrolysis"? What? Galvanized steel literally just means it has zinc metallurgically bonded to it. Hot-dipping in zinc is the most common form of galvanization.
@Helikopterpop
@Helikopterpop 2 жыл бұрын
@@1992jamo no it isnt. The whole concept of the term galvanizing leads back to the greek scientist luigi galvani. And he got famous for finding out how different metal would affect the nerv ends of a frog leg through metal conductivity. So the term referes to a guy who solely got famous for finding out different metals own galvanizing currents. Hence that galvanizing always is referring to electrolysis. Hot dipping is just hot dipping and not galvanizing... When you dip an icecream into molten chocolate, do you galvanize the icecream then?
@1992jamo
@1992jamo 2 жыл бұрын
@@Helikopterpop Luigi Galvani's work has nothing to do with what is considered galvanization these days whatsoever, regardless of if it's a namesake. What on earth is your definition of galvanization? Electroplating? Even that has nothing to do with Galvani lol. Insisting that the entire world is wrong about what the term "galvanized metal" because it's a eponym, is like insisting all cars have horses. because it comes from the word carriage.
@Helikopterpop
@Helikopterpop 2 жыл бұрын
@@1992jamo galvanizing is a name for leading current though an conductive solution which makes metal salts adhere to another metal. Galvanizing means currents between metals and har nothing to do with zink what so ever. You can nickel plate something via elecrolysis and that is also galvanizing. And that the name has nothing to do with galvani from who the expression is taken is just plain stupid. Hot zink dipping called FZV is not galvanizing, however FZB which is the blank thin coating with less corrosive resistance does.. It's different process, no electricity means no galvanizing. Period!

@@Helikopterpop Ok, here is the weirdest thing in the world. Firstly, I apologize because it's a bit of a misunderstanding between us. It turns out word "Galvanization" doesn't actually translate well between Swedish and English. In English, it doesn't really mean anything to do with electroplating, they are considered separate. But in Swedish "Galvanisering" really does mean electroplating as you say. It's weird to compare en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanization sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanisering

URGENT: You are to funny, enjoy the humor. Ok I have a real problem. Hired a man to drive a dry well into my yard, its 1 1/4 inch diameter as are the couplings. Well he messed up and stripped the threads, THEY LITERALLY appear to have been smashed flat on the stainless steal pipe which is about 4 feet of its 5 foot length driven in the ground, then he leaves the job!! I'm now in a pickle. I don't know if I as (a disabled woman with Rheumatoid arthritis and numerous bone disabilities is capable of pulling on some rachet to cut new threads so I wouldn't have to HIRE someone else which I cannot afford on disability. Then once the NEW coupling is put onto it, it must be driven the rest of the depth, along with either an additional 3 foot post, or another 5 foot post. What can I do, please? Also the threads seemed to have been larger at the end of where the threads were, I suppose for tightening it down good, so no water or air leaks. The new coupling I set onto it just to see where it would sit went all the way down the coupling to about two threads of the larger size on the pipe. Geez Louise. HELP?
