It is wild to me that these cars are considered classic cars now. And with these older Subarus parts for they are actually starting to disappear as Subaru continues to discontinue more and more parts. Specifically, the Coupes are becoming very difficult to build and restore as you literally cannot get some of the parts needed for these cars. I think that in the coming years, we will need some 3rd party to come in and start remaking as much of this stuff as they can.

Not just parts but info is getting harder to find. The old forums have dead links and photos that dont work. Very glad people like you are recording ur builds so hopefully the information can last longer for others to use in the future. Working on a 90s honda, my first one and finding info online is way harder than it should. The forums have constant deadends and ud think getting answers would be super easy but its been trickier than expected.

You’re doing amazing work and we are all grateful of these cars being recorded for our viewing 👍 I had a coworker at a Lexus dealer in the early 2010s jump for joy when he saw a faded and tired white ‘99 RS 2dr manual being traded in. He asked managers he is interested in buying that car when their deal completes with the guy but no matter what management didn’t let him have it or given the opportunity to purchase.

Always great to see some progress man looking great! Also cool to see you on flatirons tuning again, they're local to me and are great supporters! But I totally agree it's been insane finding parts for my coupe, specifically the trim stuff is a nightmare! So far over the past 8 months only 1 coupe came to a junkyard near me and the interior was tan so I couldn't really get a lot of the stuff I needed lol. I ended up going with the 6oc door cards aswell because of that! It sucks not having the oem options. Btw just a heads up on those, its actually a bit of a challenge to get good fitment with them. Its way more time consuming than you'd think but I also had speakers and crank windows that made it more challenging to get aligned. Even still the pre moulded indents for the rivnuts do not line up with where the original clips go. Also do some test fits before you install the rivnuts because if its not perfect the door cards will contact the foot sill plates preventing the door from shutting nicely. Sorry that was a lot but I just delt with it and still mad about it lol. Anyway keep up the good work, its getting better and better!

There is a company out there (i cant remember the name) that can make the door seals. They are european. And there are universal kits that work. Its all a mater of perspective. If you were to measure the box lid you can have one 3d printed and it would be fresh. Then have the oem stickers made is pretty cheap aswell. Please consider looking into 3d printing.

Great to see this one being rebuilt. I've been collecting a bunch of parts for my own upcoming 02' sti build. I've got some wild parts that'll be modernizing the base 02' GG STI wagon I'm importing. (Signaling power folding mirrors w/ heated lenses, pop up dash nav screen, oem genome gauges in a gauges bezel, heated seats, a hidden sub setup etc.🤘) I'm north of, but fairly local to you. Do have any recommendations for a body shop to check out?

@Smeedia I'm importing it from Canada so as soon as I can get it down here. I'm applying for S&D but who knows if that'll pass. Worst case it's about a year till it's 25yo anyways. I'm not cutting into the harness at all, or using taps. So for now I'm just collecting parts and sizung the wiring harnesses on my current 02' Impreza. I know a private mechanic who's got a couple acres of donor cars. I'll see if he's got a coupe w/ your parts.

You’re already doing most of the leg work on finding/informing us on: poor designed genuine parts that should be replaced, discontinued parts and finding a supplier to do a bulk build, etc. Food for thought. 1:25 / 3:00 I'm just gonna put this out there now before I even finish watching, I worked with a few weatherstrip companies back a few years ago. The two I can remember names of are SoffSeal and MetroMoulded. They're both industry standard names in old school muscle car resto. I doubt they have anything in production for a Subaru but you might be able to persuade them to repop the seals. I've said numerous times at my old job nearly a decade ago that we should branch out & adopt these older Japanese cars, nobody listened and now here we are. Those guys are still making hand over fist money on old American muscle, don't worry. Fuck I wish my local junkyards had an inventory system like that one being featured, well I guess their warehouse does but that's not the same thing. It's like the wild west at mine. 10:10 oh yeah those interiors are 100% the same aside from maybe materials. My Forester XT is quite distinct with it's special trim, but you could swap any Impreza or Forester parts in to replace something if inclined. I been trying to find the SG9 I think mirrors with the turn signals for my Fozzy, the Kouki mirrors on the baller cars. I found like two different pairs at the Junkyard so far but they were both busted and not worth taking. Dude it took like 2-3 years for me to find a rear license plate bracket for my g35 at the junky that wasn't rotted out. I actually pulled a v36 bracket rather than a v35 like what I have, but with some zipties & ingenuity it held on. It was also hit with rubberized undrecoating so it doesn't also rust. 16:25 Same reason I bought my g35 without the navi system dawg. It takes up two different locations that are otherwise storage cubbies; one is above the stereo/hvac stack where the screen would pop up from, and the other is a mini glove box on top of the normal glove box where the dvd drive would go. The top glove box is absolutely perfect for my paperwork, and the other storage spot would be sick for a set of gauges or a siruisxm thing or some such device to sit in. I also got the top of dash kit for a double din stereo on my Forester, it gets rid of the storage compartment & the clock up there. I'm going to put 3 gauges in the stock double din dash opening once I convert it, I was hoping to use the original Subaru factory pocket but the gauge faces don't clear it so I gotta settle with a generic one. The new upper spot is getting a double din.

I’m going to email them to see if they would be opening to starting to manufacture some. The few quotes I’ve gotten have been a little up there for what I think we could afford 😢 We have a handful of these junk yards around here thankfully. I was shocked when people told me they don’t have any at all! Wait do they not sell the G35 stuff as much anymore?! I figured they would still be making parts for them 💀 Anyone Already make a gauge pod for that or are you going to have to make one?
@cd5sircoupe
@cd5sircoupe Күн бұрын
@@Smeedia I probably could have bought that lic plate bracket new for like double/triple, I honestly haven't checked. That kinda shit I prefer to find in the wild, I dunno. There are surprisingly few g35s that show up in the yard though. I might find 3-6 a year? Granted I don't go all the time anymore, read what I have to say later. There's always at least a dozen SG Fozzies or similar Imprezas/Outbacks/Legacies every single time I go. None of them are ever a good spec, and if they are I missed the boat and all the good shit's gone. Now back in the day though... I got a whole ass front end for my 96 Impreza coupe off like a 00 Outback Sport wagon. I'm talking scooped RS style hood, headlights and grille. We made it work with the Zenki bumper on the Impreza. That conversion probably cost like $100 max. Oh shit I just remembered I even found a minty and intact set of the glass foglights for the Zenki Impreza bumper. Mine were basically shot & useless at that point, foggy yellow & taking on water in the other one. Those things are stupid fucking expensive these days, I wanna say I was about $50 into it. I did also get my Invidia Q400 or whatever catback for the Fozzy from there surreptitiously one day I decided to go, so that was cool. Wanna say it was like $75. Meanwhile my buddy with an 05 Accord sedan has at least two dozen there in the yard on any given day, but you either gotta fight a PR for the parts or the car's already stripped. He's pulled some good shit though including the navigation system a couple times, the dvd units keep dying. No no, I was talking about putting gauges in the Forester's in-dash spot once I move the stereo to top of dash. I also said that the top cubby in the g35 would make a good spot to put a triple gauge thing. I have no idea if anyone makes a dash pod thing for the g35, but that's kinda far on the back burner for priority. I would want an UpRev Osiris before I do something like that, it's basically a Cobb AccessPort but for this chassis.
