Adjust the temperature to be lower and choose a medium to medium light roast coffee. The fact that it has 2 thermal block is a win for me and also the grinder always produce fluffy ground.

@@CaffeMartellaSingaporewhat does 2 thermal block mean please? I have this machine and I love it but tbh I'm I didn't read up on it properly and still learning!
@CaffeMartellaSingapore2 ай бұрын
@Donnalish means it has 2 heating elements, one for the brewing of espresso and the other for the steaming of milk. You can do both at the same time, but you can do one immediately after the other and don't have to wait for the thermal block to heat up or cool down. Machine with single thermal block will require a much longer waiting time because the espresso is extracted at 90 plus degrees calculus, and steaming requires the thermal block to heat up to 120 degrees. And if you are going to make another espresso after steaming milk, you will need to wait for the single thermal block to cool down to 90 plus degrees. Whereas the SMEG doesn't have to wait because it has 2 heating elements each for its own purpose.

@CaffeMartellaSingapore2 ай бұрын
You can try this. Try to get the pressure that gives you 1: 2 extraction ratio for coffee beans to espresso in about 25 to 30 seconds. That should tell you if your pressure is good.

@kozihrajefifu61782 ай бұрын
I tried finer grind, more coffe, everything but i can not get that crema and better pressure
@CaffeMartellaSingapore2 ай бұрын
@kozihrajefifu6178 First, check the roast level and roast date of the coffee beans. If the beans are medium roasted and roast date is past 4 to 6 weeks, you won't get much crema as most of the carbon dioxide is released. If the beans are fresh and light roast, then grind finer to see if it helps. For light roasted coffee, the cream is usually very little and that is common.

@@CaffeMartellaSingapore We're starting to see machines now with a boiler for steam and thermal block for brewing. I think this is great as you always draw fresh water for coffee, not sitting in a boiler and being reheated etc. The steam boiler doesn't require a pump, just steam pressure so you can brew and steam simultaneously. I've always disliked that chugging sound you get from a thermal block steam wand. Block with PID for brewing and a nice big boiler for steam would be the perfect solution for me.
@CaffeMartellaSingapore2 ай бұрын
@@MrRickytuk oh yes, that is one of my favorite combination for an espresso machine set up, thermal block for brew and boiler for steaming. My personal favourite for now is the Odyssey Argo lever espresso machhine (fully manual level). My fav espresso machine with pump is still the machine from Wendougee, dual boiler with geared pump and pressure profiling.

@@CaffeMartellaSingapore This machine can't brew and steam at the same time as both systems use the same pump. It moves from brew to steam almost instantly as they are heated by separate blocks but you can only do one at a time. The Breville Dual boiler and the Oracle, which is also a dual boiler machine can do both and are better machines than the SMEG. Anything lower in Breville line would lose to the SMEG. The new Oracle from Breville has ditched the boilers and gone with dual thermal blocks like the SMEG but it has cost the functionality of Brew & steam at the same time.
@CaffeMartellaSingapore2 ай бұрын
@MrRickytuk, the price gap between the 2 is Hugh also. The SMEG machine is a simplified version of the Barsetto BAE 02, which has 2 thermal blocks and 2 vibratory pumps and around the same price as the SMEG machine.

Depends on the beans, freshness and whether it has rubusta. I can't remember whether this blend has rubusta in it. If not, it should be a fairly recent roast which explains the good crema.
