Smells and the memories associated with them are very powerful. Often times we may run into one of these old smells that make us remember someone in the past or something we experienced long ago. In this video we will take a closer look at some of the smells of the 1970s!

Who remembers Wind Song perfume? That was such a popular perfume back in the 70's. New Doll Smell was one of the best smells outside of New Car Smell! My older siblings had a Thingmaker. That was the coolest thing and definitely had a distinct smell. Sadly, I can't handle fragrances anymore (probably not helped due to all the toxic chemicals in things back then) but I can still enjoy the "memory scents".

@@SusanChristmas Are you sure? I liked soft musk but after smelling it again (an avon rep had a bottle at a market/fair last summer) I thought to myself, wow - my body chemistry must have changed because that does not smell good! It's either that or the perfume was old or more likely, I've developed a fondness for more subtle perfumes. The one that never changed for me though was Gucci #1. Whenever I find a vintage bottle, no matter how old - it smells so good on me that both men and women ask me what I'm wearing. Now that I think about it, never mind - hope you find a bottle and it smells as good as you remember!

Beauty products and fragrances that I loved in the 70s: Eau De Love, Love’s Fresh Lemon, Jovan Musk, Slicker Lipstick, Cover Girl liquid makeup, Cornsilk face powder, Flex shampoo and conditioner, Jergen’s lotion. One toy that I recall having a distinct smell was a hard plastic Duncan Yo-Yo, fresh from it’s packaging. When the first mall opened nearby, I remember the smoky-cheesy aromas from Hickory Farms, and also the sweet smell of their dried banana chips. The 1970s malls also had at least one leather shop, the leather goods had quite a distinctive smell. Usually, there was also at least one pseudo hippy-stoner shop, selling posters, tie dye clothing, etc. Most of these shops also carried a large variety of incense and essential oils, certainly more scents than I had ever experienced.

I just got some Jergen’s lotion with the original scent. Takes me right back to my mom’s kitchen. She kept it right on the counter.

This was a surreal sensory-packed presentation for sure. My brain was actually smelling through memory the majority of these examples. It’s fascinating how many of these specific things or products we subconsciously store beyond immediate memory, then remember immediately upon sight.

You can still order "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" and Lemon up from the Vermont Country Store. In the 70's we wore "Babe" perfume/cologne and you could order that today too. Those were the good old days & I'm grateful to be in my teens in the 70's.

Doll's hair always had a distinctive smell that I loved! Gosh, I miss those days! It's miraculous how our brains file away these smells and scents. I could remember most of these smells with just the mention of them. Great Video! Thank you!

I posted the same thing!. First thing I do is smell doll's hair when I've brought first my daughter and now my granddaughters. It doesn't smell the same. I still smell the hair of dolls when I see them in antique stores looking for that smell.

I had a summer job at a donut shop in the 70s and will never forget the smell of donut grease, mixed with cigarette smoke, mixed with coffee grounds..that not very pleasant scent is a strong memory! But my favorite 70s scent was from when we would visit relatives in early summer on an island...the salt air, mixed with the scent of wild roses and honeysuckle is the best combination of smells and takes me back to carefree vacation fun. This was a great video! Thank you for bringing those years back through scent! ❤

I remember the scent of the 70s and early 80s lotion "Rose Milk"...that smell has stuck with me on up until today! I wish they'd bring it back...IMO it was the best smelling fragrant lotion ever...LOL!!

Wella Balsam shampoo and Suave Strawberry shampoo both smelled great. I also remember Dippity-Do styling gel had a distinct smell, as did White Rain shampoo and Aqua-Net hairspray. I loved Jovan Musk and Skin Musk by Bonne-Bell which are still around today. There were also these big plastic tubes of lip gloss by Bonne Bell that smelled like various kinds of candy or soft drinks. I loved two in particular, Orange Crush and Dr. Pepper. Cover Girl liquid makeup had its own smell, but I haven't used that in decades so I don't know if its the same or not. Whte school paste that came in a plastic jar with a brush on the lid smelled kind of minty and is probably why some kids tried to eat it. Mucilage glue reminds me of middle school art class, as does tempera paint. Mimeographed papers, rubber cement, and Liquid Paper correction fluid remind me of high school. My three favorite scents that can transport me back to childhood are crayons, Play-Doh and old library books.
