To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand old SMG4. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Mario's dumbass outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Old KZbin poop literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE.

I really like how Mario actually feels bad for his friends, he's come a long way. This arc shows that the people he used to bully, torment, and downright hurt actually mean more to him than anything else. He never would have cared about Bob or Fishy Boopkins yet he still shows sadness at their deletion. Mario does actually care for those around him, even if his stupidity prevents him from caring all the time. Really good arc, SMG4
