I think it has to do with the space-time continuum. Having a version of an individual from a time period that has occurred before or after the time period that the individual is really supposed to be in come in contact with the individual that’s meant to be there at that time will confuse the timelines and, in a violent reaction, the space-time continuum will tear a fabric in itself to fix it. It’s kind of like how a body gives itself a fever in response to detecting a pathogen.

(Long comment) So here's the remaining characters which could help Mario and why/how: - *Axol:* SMG3 didn't get rid of him or got a version of him. Maybe because he disregarded him as someone important or forgot about him while Axol was in the Internet Graveyard. However, his help depends on how messy the timeline became. If Mario and his new "friends" did end up going to Japan during a similar Anime Arc, he could still be around and recognize Mario as his friend, but could have forgotten about the others. If they never went to Japan, then he is out of the game. Or maybe he wasn't affected at all by time continuity. - *Shroomy:* Although currently in his Anti-Shroomy state, he could be turned back somehow and still remember Mario, since they met at the end of a challenge Mario made for everyone in the kingdom, regardless of their friends. - *Chris and Swagmaster:* Gained more protagonism last year and this one, but we haven't seen them in a while. Could potentially help Mario unless their memories of befriending Mario and Co during the Anime Arc got messed up. - *Bowser, Peach, Toad and Steve:* I put these four together because they haven't appeared lately in a relevant way, and their memories of meeting and "befriending" Mario are basically untouched. However, they are more secondary these days, so unless Mario searches for any friends he still has left, they won't appear. *And last but not least...* *- Susan and Kawaiishima:* Susan definitely wants her remote back, and we know she's got powers herself, but she could be put out easily against the remote. However, Kawaiishima could be the one tied directly with how things will play out in the end. He was friendly with Mario when they met, saying he looked over him, and the fact that he is an almighty literal god who resides at the begginning of time could allow him to restart the timeline and fix it. One thing I'm wondering is what's gonna happen to SMG3. Although there are more important questions, I want to see what his fate will be at the end of the arc. He already had chances of redemption during the arc, and with the Remote everyone could just erase him as payback and because he would still be a bad guy later on. However, someone could propose sparing him, and maybe alter things so he receives a happy ending (maybe changing events of his school days or from his first video). That also raises the question if he will appear as a villain again in future SMG4 episodes. Regardless, I'm really curious to see how all this plays out. *EDIT:* Many people in the replies are telling me I forgot to add characters like Wario, Waluigi, Hall Monitor, Sonic, Slenderman, Toast Shy Guy, etc. I'd place them along Bowser, Peach, Toad and Steve in the list. The problem is, while they do have chances of appearing, unless both Mario and SMG3 wanted a big army, they couldn't fit every secondary character in the video, so I just included some of the most important ones. Also, in the WOTFI trailer, X is banished from existence, and Frankie as well in this video. Even though they were secondary characters, SMG3 still wanted to mess up with them, so in reality we don't really know how many characters will be untouched by the time WOTFI comes around. As a side note, since most characters are still alive but just having different lives without the events of SMG4, Mario could try to make them remember their adventures or befriend them again, as many of you said. Heck, SMG3 could even use that as a threat, erasing Mario's friends completely and not just their memories, or erasing the memories of anyone who STILL remembers him so that he will participate in WOTFI or stop his attack. (Oh yeah, and things could become more meta in the rest of the arc.)

Mario shields his face from the wind and squints, trying to identify the mysterious figure. It speaks: "Change da world. My final message. Goodbye." the camera slowly zooms in on the figure, and as the music swells, we see that it is... No. Could it be? Greg. Giving a smile and a nod, Greg ascends into the heavens where Harambe and Desti are waiting for him to play some super smash brothers. The newly restored gang gathers around as Mario sheds a single, glimmering tear. Fin

I was gonna comment on how Meggy lost to a watermelon, until I saw the ending of the video and decided to edit this comment. I never thought SMG4, a man who used to only just make videos with dumb memes, suddenly make capitating videos about characters you grown to love be wiped from existence. I'm very late for this video since I took a long break from watching SMG4, and I'm trying to catch up with what I missed, but with content like this, I frankly want to soak in every second of the videos I watch next.
