Here's what I think, since Mario is the "avatar" if the SMG4 universe, there are safeguards and limitations as to what can actually "kill" mario, sure, he can die to a bomb, but he'll be fine like 5 minutes later, but if an outside entity, such as Zero, attempts to kill Mario, those "avatar" safeguards can't kick in, since it's not a normal thing killing Mario, it's an unknown being, actively killing the host

Video idea: SMG4 feels like he is missing something important deep inside him, like something that needs to be repaired with something or someone. He has to dig deep and go through his memory to try and what out what exactly he is needing to fix.
