Here's what I think, since Mario is the "avatar" if the SMG4 universe, there are safeguards and limitations as to what can actually "kill" mario, sure, he can die to a bomb, but he'll be fine like 5 minutes later, but if an outside entity, such as Zero, attempts to kill Mario, those "avatar" safeguards can't kick in, since it's not a normal thing killing Mario, it's an unknown being, actively killing the host

My SMG4 Suggestion: Mario's Hospitality Trip. It's when Meggy, SMG4 & 3, and Mario go skydiving but Mario forgets his parachute like a dumb*ss and fractururs his skull, arm, and foot. My theory (for the SMG4 explanation) is that there are 2 types of deaths: Normal death and permadeath. Normal deaths are common, where most die and, probably due to guardian powers, get revived after a random amount of time, with their afterlives being holding areas. Permadeaths are what victims can't return from, however it's only possible under certain conditions, those conditions(after 2018) being: Be a side character/villain, get killed by another character in a moment of the storyline that falls under one of certain types of tone and mood (serious). The avatar of each universe isn't supposed to be permakillable, but Niles and the god box found a way to bypass that.

Video idea: SMG4 feels like he is missing something important deep inside him, like something that needs to be repaired with something or someone. He has to dig deep and go through his memory to try and what out what exactly he is needing to fix. After going through meaningful moments, like how the original castle was destroyed and WOTFI 2023, he realized he wants to repair his relationship with SMG3; as it was rather rocky. (You can build it from there and make it as silly as you want, but I think this could be cool tbh)

I have my own theory. Mario has always been the same mario, simply having his aging regressed every time he supposed to "die" of old age, therefore keeping him from actually dying, which would explain why is is very similar to his prehistoric counterpart. Every time hus aging regresses, the timeline shifts to ensure there is always an event that "memeifies" mario, ie smg4 landing in the universe. The reason why mario keeps "dying" and yet always comes back is because, since he's the avatar, his body feeds off of meme energy. Since there is an abundant amount of meme energy at all times, the energy keeps healing him no matter the intensity of the damage. The only thing that can truly kill him is an SMG from a different universe. The reason for this is because SMG's from different universes emit meme energy of different frequencies. When the invading SMG kills an avatar, their meme energy disrupts the natural meme energy of the universe, preventing the avatar from being able to feed off it. Since avatars can only feed off of the meme energy from their own universe, they become unable to revive themselves, killing them to the point where no amount of meme energy can revive them even if the invading SMG leaves. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY!!!
