When I was a kid, I put CAI’s on everything. Growing up is realizing that factory intake with a quality paper element will generally flow more air than your engine can use.
@OEMPlus11 күн бұрын
when you was a kit factory air intakes weren't nearly as good as they are now.
@jimmydiamond7510 күн бұрын
Plus the da t that 99% of CAI are actually HOT air intakes scooping up engine heat from the bay, instead of outside where it’s , you know, COLDER 😂😂😂
@jamesletzring980710 күн бұрын
@@jimmydiamond75 well that is true for the open element type intakes. If you use a quality intake that is in a designed box, it actually is a cold air
@MannyV745 күн бұрын
There’s actually a banks video that proves a less restrictive intake is far superior than stock. But, yes tuning is required to take advantage of the modification, and isn’t actually pulling in hot air from under the hood of course.

All about maintenance and these filters are high maintenance. I only use them on my sports cars that get low mileage and can clean the filter every few drives. On a daily driver, paper filters are the way to go because more filtration is better and you don't want to high maintenance.

Have had a K&N ony 08 5.4 since New. No issues. Brian even worked on it & no issues with intake. I think it comes down to someone knowing how to correctly oil them. Now I can say without a doubt the breather brought in more trash to my intake for the return than any filter I've ever seen! . Living in a high temp area will cause more oil burn due to higher ambient temps. The results are dirty throttle bodies.
@7thStreetGardenStrangler11 күн бұрын
@mygoogleaccount9990 the secret is to buy the dry kind instead. K&N makes a dry filter that drops in just like the oiled ones but it covers multiple models (F150 and Explorer for example). Never use oiled filters on an Ecoboost. They're dirty already as it is.

If it's the oil, that happens on the stock tube as well. I've had them gum up on my 97 thunderbird so bad that i had to slap the gas pedal when it was cold to free it up. Hence the reason I added the oil catch can when i put the new motor in. It's the oil vapors from the pcv valve that are routed back into the intake that cause it. Btw, the oil catch can does work to prevent that.

Everybody!….that’s AFTER the filter. That’s what the “high flow” filter and the lackluster sealing of the aftermarket air box or altogether removed air box of a CAI can let through in the namesake of “performance”. That’s the point here. Dusty grit & oily mist polluting the MAF sensor & IAC valve and then continuing into the intake for engine consumption. First line of defense and you’ve setting yourself back. The proof is literally in the pudding of what’s being displayed here looking in the inlet tube AFTER the filter of an obvious CAI. Knowledge is power. Now you know. Do with it as you wish, but he’s warned ya. Hope that helps…..just a plumbers 2 cents!

Truth. I have asked that. I thoughtbwell simple, it doesn't filter as well. Larger openings. He is clueless about other maintenance too. He was then sold a filter that didn't fit but he tried to make it fit and broke the airbox. I told him he need to fix that asap. He was clueless. I told him it will suck in all that dirt from the job sites and that is really bad. Years later he still hasn't fixed it. Surprisingly the truck still runs good. It's a 7.3 powerstroke. The issue is people don’t clean them. Most air reusable. You just have to blow them out and re-oil them. However these days especially for performance vehicles like mustangs Camaros and chargers all have a great built in air box, these days all you really need to do is just replace the air filter with a K&N filter. But same thing, you have to blow them out and re-oil them. People don’t do that.
