Charlie had 3 wives before her. His last wife was Paulette Goddard. He was wed to her for a long time and she was the one who wanted out of the marriage from all that I have read about them. They was no bitterness between. She always spoke well of him if ask about him. Romance? Ok, I will speak for myself. 34 years wed and happily so by all accounts. Yes that is romance! I do not think he was looking for her and she was not looking for him. They met and married and had 34 happy years and 8 children before his passing. TCM just ran some Chaplin movies and I had a little time to watch some of them. The credits were given on some, possibly all of them and I am amazed how much he undertook. Often writing directing, and scoring much of this. There is a genius in what he did. His Tramp character can still hold up IMO. Genius may be too little a compliment.
