@@HDBnB1 good and bad. Good news - i have very sharp vision, somewhere between 20/10-20/15, BUT not when my eyes are dry. It's winter in Poland and the heating is drying air in my flat so bad, though humidifiers help a little. Night vision is also clear and sharp, thanks to the 7.2mm optical zone. Bad news - left eye has some ghosting/double vision with highest contrast stuff, neon banners, white text on black background on the computer screen, dark themes. I'm still 2 months post-op so I have a hope that it will resolve because no test shows abnormalities, I did anything from aberrometry to epithelial mapping and have no abnormalities

Tomorrow is my first month having SMILE and only side effects are soreness/strain from looking at my tablet/virtual reality for an extended period of time (with occasional floaters). I still need to use artificial tears, I can’t see as close as I used to look at stuff so there’s been adjustments to how I look at things. My vision is 20-25 on my left and 20-30 on my right. Watching these updates are helping reassure me that these side effects may be temporary as I definitely have been having lots of anxiety regarding my vision and eyes. Glad I went through with it despite it and looking forward to the side effects potentially going away as the months go on.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm having it next month and I'm extremely worried and nervous. How are you now? Have the side effects disappeared?
@mburg33
@mburg33 7 ай бұрын
@@marumaruela The side effects are still present but it’s not as bad as the beginning I guess. My light sensitivity has always been an issue but I have become more sensitive after the surgery. I’m going to be trying to use pupil constriction eye drops for my light sensitivity as my pupils have always been bigger. Light sensitivity is the worst at night as light tends to bleed out of devices but I found sunglasses help with that, at least buying them would be easier because you don’t need prescription sunglasses or ones that fit over prescription glasses/lenses (I’m using the Safety Shades under the Dang Shades brand, arms are adjustable which is nice because my head is bigger than the typical sizes). I am using 3 month punctal plugs (on the lower eyelids) for dryness as Systane Hydration PF expenses are adding up. I would suggest using the droppers and not the tear open vials since I dropped it on my eye once and got an abrasion since they are sharp (honestly don’t know why those kind of vials are allowed to be sold). It’s nice that I had it because I don’t need glasses anymore but that everything up close to my face is blurry now which they say is expected, but I honestly don’t like that and might have reconsidered the surgery if I knew I would have gotten this side effect. Overall that’s the main 3 side effects I am still dealing with, I managing better as time passes but not sure if it’s because I’m getting used to it or symptoms are subsiding. My vision is still good, had a local eye exam yesterday before I had the plugs put in. Hoping that I am still improving since it does normally take much longer for my body to recover/heal from things. Hope this answer is helpful, good luck with whatever you decide to do in the future.

@@joseginogonzalezortiz9126 still sensitive to light, toying around with wearing sunglasses when watching TV at night. Eyes still get dry but it’s getting more manageable with getting 3 month punctal plugs put in. Have to be careful lying down on my side because the pressure hurts my eyes if they are on the pillow. Sometimes I get headaches regarding my eyes. Can’t really read up close to my face anymore which is something I really miss. Other than all that it’s really helping being able to see through my Valve Index VR headset without glasses. I’m having a good eye day today, maybe because I slept really well so I think sleep definitely helps. Still buying eyedrops but it’s definitely less frequent buying, slowly improving. No more post ops, have like 20x20.something vision.

First off your guys content of awesome. So I’ve reached a fork in the road in my vision. Correction journey I just went into my consultation. Where my doctor says I’m actually a excellent candidate for both smile and LASIK. I got the sense he is steering me towards the traditional Lasik correction. I say this because he was actually in the same position I am at one point, and he chose the traditional Lasik surgery. His parting words were basically With Lasik if there is ever an enhancement needed in the future we can always just lift the flap and add the enhancement. With smile, If we wanted to do an enhancement we would have to do PRK. With that said I really want the smile, but I’m truly second-guessing myself.
@HDBnB1

That’s an interesting perspective from your doctor and I never heard that viewpoint. It’s tempting if it’s true which I don’t see why it wouldn’t be. I can see that if I had that information earlier on, I may have been conflicted with my decision. That being said, since I had a successful operation with no issues as well as my friend, I do not regret my choice to go with smile. Thank you for watching. Smile, like every other eye surgery needs enourmes time to recover. Your cornea stroma cells (there was the cut) needs to regenerate and this needs 2 - 3 Years until they turnover. You should not be frustrated, because there is a common mistake of understanding vision acuity. Vision acuity is not vision quality. When you look at your screen you will eventually see sharp but very uncomfortable. Most peoply have good vision acuity directly after the surgery but that not mean that you can see in that quality like before directly. Higher order aberrations are the thing that cause (starburst, slight double vision and halos) these things are induced directly after every type of eye surgery but the surgery reduced your lower order aberrations (defocus, astigmatismus). Because that you can see far, but in detail not good at the beginning. Nearly everybody has problems with screen vision (caused by slight double vision through vertical coma aberration) after any type of surgery and this side effect is the longest one and probably mostly disturbing. Your real recover length is overall 3 Years. 1 Month your eye accomodation is adjusted (eye doesn't battle anymore for dominant eye position) 1 - 3 Months the haze disappears. 3 - 6 Months the 4th, 5th, 6th order aberrations like starbursts and halos decrease. 6 - 36 Months the 3th order aberrations like doublevision decrease. 6 - 12 Months your cornea nerves recover and your tear film will stabilize (This process acclerate the reduction of your higher order aberrations) 24 - 48 Months your vision acuity will decrease 0.5 dioptries (thats because most people will overcorrected slighty) Please note that you have to drop your eyes (use eyedrop without conservatives only), even when you think they are ok (At the beginning 6 - 12 Months you will not feel that there are dry, you see it only through bad vision)

@HDBnB1 oh sweet! I'll be on the lookout, and thanks for the quick response. I was just curious because I had read that PVD (posterior vitreous detachment) was a possible side effect that may happen months after the surgery because of the suction that is used with the laser. Floaters are a common sign of this. Though, there are SO many other side effects that can appear after having this kind of surgery. I got my smile surgery yesterday. No complaints with my vision so far other than some glare. But, I still have pain in my left eye, which is weird. The doctor told me it was due to dryness. It's still been less than 48 hours since the surgery....so I'll give it a few more days. I just hope they're right and that it's not an early sign of something serious like corneal neuralgia.

This is the most “just in time video” ever. Got my smile surgery 10 days ago. Only problem I had: my eyes get so dry that I wake up at night and artificial tears burn a bit. Did you experience anything similar?

It was just my first night that my eyes were dry and burning but the artificial tears are what actually helped me alleviate that pain

Any update? I had surgery five days ago, one of my eyes see more blurry than the other, is this normal? Do you think it will get better? The doctor said that my eyes are 10 out of 10 with the machine, but I am very worried
