Hi from Spain!!❤️ about the kiss part in min 16:55, actually in Europe it’s not common seeing two men kiss as a greeting. In this series they do it because gays might do it but in reality men don’t usually do the two kiss thing, only a man with a woman and a woman with another woman. Glad that you liked this series!!💕As a curiosity, besides Spanish, some characters were speaking Catalan, a language spoken in the region of Catalunya (specifically in Barcelona, were “Smiley” was based on)

I started watching just for the main couple (alex/bruno) because that‘s what the show was advertised with, but by the end i was almost more invested in all the other couples tbh. Really great show!

I love Merli so much!! I have a couple episodes left of the sequel series Merli Sapre Aude. Carlos is just an amazing actor!!

This was so well presented, written and acted - from the first minute to the end it was fun, mesmerizing and so true to life as any other series on this subject has been presented before. It wasn't too over the top and it was clean, loving and showed wonderful emotions we all go through but one different levels. It so believable and the relationship between Alex and Bruno was so typical of two people who resist and end up just about regretting it. Sometimes vulnerability can save us and make us truly human. Great production, and am sure everyone had a great time on set... Congrats. Thanks, gracias...

This is one of the most intelligent, corageous, honest queer shows ever, just like many other spanish ones produced by Netflix, both series and movies. Definitely in my list since the day it came out❤ Great reaction from you both!

My husband and I watched this around the holidays and we absolutely loved it. One of the best LGBTQ series ever! We first discovered Carlos Cuevas, the main actor, in the Merli series, which is also very good.

The red-headed office co-worker Ramon is played by Ramon Pujol, who stars in an excellent 2019 film directed by Lucio Castro: Fin de Siglo (End of the Century). His romantic/erotic chemistry with co-star Juan Barberini is terrific. Unlike this charming series, End of the Century is definitely an "art film" -- and definitely worth seeking out. Beautifully shot (again) in Barcelona, one of the most photogenic of cities! (Note: I believe Pujol played Alex in the original play that Smiley is based on.)

The Netflix series is adapted from a (successful) play by by Guillem Clua, and uses much/most of the same cast. Perhaps bits here and there do seem a bit "stagey".

Carlos Cuevas is hot as fuck. But I really liked him more in 'Merli', so please Netflix I'm begging you, show the orignal Merli series too, not only 'Merli Sapere Aude', cause you can't get it by not knowing the whole series and Bruno & Pol are soo cute!!!!

Besides I think Sapere Aude is crap as a whole, except for some Pol (Carlos) scenes, I particularly liked him in the whole VIH storyline. But look, Netflix hasn't even promoted Smiley properly so, don't expect Merli on it, which is a real pity because IMO the first season of Merli is one of the very best ever. And the ending of the third and final was just lovely.

netflix in ur country only has the sapere aude??? damn, the latin american or argentinian netflix actually has merli, the whole show, or maybe it’s missing the first season which sucks but yeah, to watch the sapere aude it’s very hard so i just watched it on a non official platform🤷🏻‍♀️

@@darylridingamotorcycle666 Hi, thanx for your comment, Actually I can (and do) watch MERLI from time to time because I have access to TV3..But I definetely don't have access to in on Netflix. I must say that I think the first season of Merli is my favorite. I happen to know for certain that it was so good because the writer had been working on it for ages and when it became the huge success was given two more seasons for wich he had not much. That and David/Bruno quitting the show brought (IMO) a few poor episodes on the 3rd season. Anyway, that's all history now. I read that Smiley is finished. Netflix has not wanted a 2nd season because the first wasn't popular enough. I blame two things for that, one Netflix did NOT publicize it (for whatever reason) and 2 because it's basically about grown up gays which has a very limited public anyway. The key to success these days is to include troubled hot bisexual young guys who can't decide which way to go. This brings hordes of young girls to any show, like moths to a flame.
