Install MikroTik WinBox 64bit on macOS Catalina (Alternate Install Method)

this is golden... I followed the steps and working on my macmini m1, macOS monterey. I used homebrew to install the casks (wine-stable v6.0.2 and xquartz 2.8.1) as of this writing. Thanks! - I tried the other "packages" but it's slow (visually like dragging windows and mouse movements) and this install is so far a good experience.

Thanks, different versions of Wine perform differently. I don't think xquartz is needed anymore. Wine 6 wasn't out at the time I made the video, I'll have to give it a try.

You may have to hit ESC first. You could have been in a different mode where i is not accepted.

There maybe an issue with your Wine. I've had to use different versions of Wine because one would have different issues. They should be able to run together or independently. Make sure you follow the video exactly. The image file needs to be in specific format, size, etc.. If you have issues, you can use the Icon I created. Try to force close wine. That shouldn't happen.

You may click the "cancel" button - just don't trash it. You may need to check in with System Preferences > Security & Privacy to allow it. GateKeeper is blocking it. You need to click "Open it anyway" button on the first execution.

Hi, I watched both of your videos and I could use your help. I am running on Catalina 10.15.7 and winehq only supports up to 10.14. Is there a way to get around with this? Thanks!

I was running Catalina in both videos. Did you try the link in the description? It should take you directly to 5.0 and 5.7 downloads. Either should work. WineHQ says it's not supported, but it does work. They just haven't tested and validated it. I think I missed capturing it in the video because of testing it previously on this machine. When first trying to open there is a good 15-30 expectations you have to allow in Security & Privacy. Kinda tedious because you can't do them all at once. You have to try to open WinBox it accesses another Wine .exe or .dll and throws the exception. Then you can allow it in Security & Privacy. This maybe why Wine states it doesn't support Catilina. Since most people won't go through the trouble of allowing every file. And you can't mass do it once for the whole Wine. So if you open a totally different Windows program that now accesses a different .exe or .dll from Wine, you may get blocked on that program even though WinBox is working fine.

Looks like my macbook just updated to OS Big Sur 11.1 and I was able to get past the scripts in the terminal but when I tried to go to open the winbox64.exe in the application folder, it doesn't have the option to "show package contents" as shown on your video. Did I miss something along the way?

@@rexabian3966 I haven't used big sur yet. But .exe's shouldn't have show package contents. Only .app's should. .exe would be the windows binary. .app is the macOS application bundle. The .app is the folder created at 5:20

M1 is ARM. Wine is for x86/64. I'm not sure if it would work. But in theory, you should be able to run WIne under Rosetta 2.

I believe Rosetta 2 installs automatically when it recognizes you're trying to run an Intel based App. Maybe try to install a known intel program and see if it starts installing Rosetta. If you have an older mac you can download the installer for something like Chrome or Firefox. Then copy it over to the new M1 mac and see what happens when trying to launch it. I'm just guessing that might trigger it, since I haven't used an M1, so I'm not entirely sure how it works yet. support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861 Codeweavers was able to get their program to run windows Apps on M1 Macs. I believe their software uses Wine. So I'm sure there is a way. But I don't have a M1 to give specific steps on how to do it. www.codeweavers.com/crossover
