I actually think I might put Desmond in the Evil category (or at least the last Gray Area spot) not only because killing something (even if it was vermin) gave his life purpose and brought him joy (which on its own is pretty disturbing), but also because he outright told Charlie and Pim that if they couldn't make him happy he would force them to watch him kill himself. Committing suicide is one thing, but doing it in front of someone with the goal of giving them trauma is borderline sociopathic and pushes him over the edge for me.

Given Desmond's positive come back I like to imagine that it wasnt killing a small creature that felt good, rather it felt good to eliminate an actively hostile pest for the benefit of others. I mean maybe he just liked killing something given the cruel methods advertised for his business, but at the same time he specializes in bllible control and those thing crucify people so could argue its warranted
