Smith Alarm Clock Tear Down & Rebuild

I begin my watchmaking journey by tearing down and rebuilding this Smith Alarm Clock.
This video was inspired by ‪@VACC‬.
My plan is to learn the first elementals of watchmaking on something that is big and non-precision - like this clock! Getting this right will be an important step for me towards working with watches.

Great video, and again, thanks for the mention! You did a great job on that Smiths Alarm. The only thing I'd suggest doing differently is I'd reccommend removing the balance wheel and hairspring before letting the power down, just to keep it safe and get it out the way early. All the best!

Great suggestion! I've since got another clock that I can hopefully salvage the hairspring out of a get this one keeping proper time. I just really like the look of the face. Have you ever tried re-painting the alarm plunger - notice how the red paint has flaked off this one. And thanks for inspiring me to have a go!

@@watchout9213 I like it too, I've got one with the same face design but in a slightly different case, dated 1957. Your clock looks in great condition, so I think you should give it a go. I don't think those plungers can be removed from the case however, so you might need to use a lot of masking.

Good to see another Aussie in the watch hobby, black hole of no return😅. I use Shellite (lighter fluid) for cleaning watch parts, obtained from Bunnings or mitre10 works well.
