I absolutely love my 380 ez! Hand strength is a huge issue with me and firearms that are not ez which is why I chose it for my carry gun. I've had many tell me that if one is chambered I don't have to worry about my hand strength. My comment back is that if I can't fully operate that firearm I shouldn't have it and I truly believe that.

My wife has arthritis so she has an issue with racking and firing most 9mm’s. I’ve bought her a 380 and 22 but I was concerned about the effectiveness of both those rounds. We were at Academy and they had the Equalizer so we checked it out. The Equalizer was easy to rack and to handle…very happy with the purchase. 😊

I bought my 73 year old wife one for the same reason. I was pleasantly surprised to see the nubs on the magazine that made it easier to load it too. The only thing I didn't like about it was, the sites resulted in low hits at close range (70'). A problem many others talked about too.

I absolutely LOVE this comparison! I'm 67 and back in October I decided I wanted a new firearm. After doing as much research as I thought I could, I went to my local gun dealer ready to purchase the S&W Shield EZ. I got in the store, tried the Shield and had a problem racking it and it just didn't feel right in my hand. (Which is exactly what happened when I bought my Sig P938 9mm. The guy at that gun store told me I'd "learn" to rack it, it would become easier, etc. But I bought it anyway. But after a bad fall and injury to my right arm/hand/wrist/elbow - racking the slide was impossible! I ended up selling the gun.) So I was really excited to try the Shield - but I still struggled manipulating it. The guys at this new gun store suggested the Equalizer. As soon as I picked it up, it just felt "right" in my hand, and I could rack it easily! BONUS! So, I tried the Equalizer, went home with it and have never looked back. I'm at the range 2-3 times a week working on target shooting, stance, grip, etc. I think I'm ready to move on to self-defense (already took the class and applied for my CWP) and the range I go to (same as where I bought the Equalizer) has so many classes and resources. I'm so glad I just "happened" to go in there to check out the Shield and left with the Equalizer. Thanks so much for your comparison - the fact that you and MacQ both like it confirms I made the right decision. Now on to searching for a comfortable way to carry, and a way to practice "drawing" since I can't do that at the range. I'm wondering if there is a training gun (air, BB, whatever) similar to the Shield/Equalizer so I can train with that. Your thought are always welcome! Love, Love your channel. Thank you so much. Daisie

Great video, happy to see you try the Equalizer. I bought the Equalizer about 4 months ago, I am 66 and figure that racking won’t get easier as my hands get older. Minimal recoil. I really like that it came with the Uplula and 3 mags, a 15, 13 and a 10 round for when I go home to Massachusetts for a visit, lol. My only complaint is because I am left handed, I have to find a gunsmith to have the mag release moved to the other side of the gun. I have no trouble concealing in my corset, belly band or IWB, although it’s a bit too big for thigh holster. Thanks for all that the both of you do!!

My wife tried the Equalizer at a range day and loved it so much that we went home with it. She thinks the slide pull is easier than the EZ. She's also super accurate with it. She's a little better with my Springfield XDM Elite, but that's a different class of pistol. Otherwise she shoots the Equalizer the best of all our pistols.

For clarification, the Equalizer and the Shield PLUS use the same magazine, but it is not the same as those used in the original Shield, Shield 2.0, or Shield EZ. With so many versions carrying the Shield name I have seen several channels incorrectly stating that the Equalizer uses the same mags as the Shield but this is an error. I think they mean the Shield PLUS, but that is not what was said. And for those that are unaware these magazines are available in 10, 13 and 15 round options.

I have both the 9mm and 30 Super Carry Shield Pluses. It’s always surprised me when people on videos say the recoil is the same in both calibers. IT’S NOT, just like you both stated. 30sc has LESS RECOIL. 30 super carry in the Shield Plus is a 16+1 gun instead of 10+1 in the EZ. The 30sc Shield Plus is also +3 in capacity over the 9mm Shield Plus. The 9mm 10 and 13rd magazines are 13 and 16rd in the 30sc. The only change is that there is a 15rd 9mm magazine for the plus, but S&W has yet to release a corresponding +3 in 30sc, which would be an 18rd in 30sc. Loaded with 16+1 rds of 30sc HST’s , the Shield Plus is every bit as potent as your 9mm HST’s. All the gel test videos show the 30sc HST’s penetrating and expanding exactly like the 9mm HST’s, with most of the videos showing 30sc penetrating deeper. The other surprise is the 147gr 9mm HST has 21ft/lbs LESS ENERGY than the 30sc 100gr HST. That’s straight from the HST ammo boxes. You lose nothing by carrying 30sc, but you gain 3 more rounds of capacity in the same size gun, with less recoil to boot.

My daughters and I have the S&W Performance Center EZ''s and I cannot think of a better shooting pistol (rack, load, shooting) IMHO. In my mid fifties now, I enjoy the soft shooting EZ models. I generally carry the full size 1911/.45 ACP and I too, like the HST's. I bought my son the new S&W PC 1911 .45 ACP for Christmas and he really likes it. It also shoots very well. In our family, we own nine of the S&W PC pistols to carry and hunt with, and we are very satisfied. Thanks for sharing. May God richly bless you and your family!

If you have small hands like me then the Super Duper Carry 30 is better suited to be fired in a revolver. The length makes the grip longer and therefore a longer trigger reach on a semi-auto pistol.

Great review, and I have found the same results regarding double stack 9mm pistols. I got my wife a shield plus with a Holosun HS507K ACSS Vulcan red dot, which she fires very well, but it is difficult to rack the slide for her. It’s small, so she can carry it easily. As a result, I got her an Equalizer, which has a Picatinny rail, so I placed a light/LASER (green) combo, and she loves it. I bought them in TX, and did a family transfer (with a bunch of 10-rd magazines) and she now has them registered in CA and both are on her CCW. So long as SB-2 remains enjoined, she can carry either wherever she wants. Thanks for the great review!

I have both the Equalizer with a Defender Red Dot and a 30 EZ Super Carry. I am older with off hand strength issues. I have fired a Shield a number of times but find the EZ and Equalizer are much easier for me. I especially love my Red Dot. My Equalizer is becoming my every day CC as I love how it handles. It is so easy to shoot and accurate when you get the Red Dot sighted in. And it comes with 10, 13 and 15 round magazines! Also, I love the Equalizer as it is similar in racking to my other EZ pistols, especially my .380 with the lighter springs. I have never had issues with the recoil or trigger reset on my Equalizer or the .380 EZ. To be fair, I do not shoot as much as you two. I haven't yet fired my 30 Super Carry but bought it from a friend who ended up with a second one when he forgot he already had one 🤗. So, I got to buy it and will later decide how I like it. I consider every one of my EZ pistols as dependable and accurate as any pistol I have had. Formerly, I used primarily Rugers, including for CC but as my left hand became more of a consideration, I knew I needed to adapt the firearm I use. I still love my Rugers but, since I cannot fully control all aspects of using it, have relegated them to fun shooting instead of a dependable carry pistol.

In my experience as a retired state trooper I still favor the 45 acp, 38 spl +P, 357 mag or 40 S&W. In practice I’ve experienced these calibers to be effective, especially at close contact distances. Thanks for a good demonstration of the new product ! I’m still partial to S&W and fondly remember the days that cops could visit and have work done while getting lunch and a tour at the factory in Springfield .

Thanks for this video. I am 66 and have arthritis in my hands. I cannot rack my husbands Shield Plus no matter how many tricks and tips I try. I just don't have the hand strength to hold on to the slide. I started with the 9mm EZ. It is a nice gun but I wanted more capacity and optic ready. I bought the Equalizer as soon as I saw it. I love it and I shoot it very well. I just had a hard time concealing it. I tried the S&W CSX and I was surprised at how much I like it. It fits my hand really well and is easy to rack. I think the recoil is less because of the metal body instead of polymer. It is easy to conceal because of it's small size. Would love to see your thoughts on the CSX.

@JonCarter-i3k
@JonCarter-i3k 7 ай бұрын
I think the gun can also be had without the ambi safeties. I have the Shield EZ 380 Performance Center version. I can reliably engage the grip safety 100 percent of the time, as it sticks out slightly more than the standard Shield EZ 380 one, which I had trouble being consistent in trying to engage it. I would not get it right about a fourth of the time. Also, a pleasant surprise was that the Performance Center trigger is flatter and feels amazing. It's perfect for me, so I'm buying the S&W Equalizer. I got a terrific deal on one, that was barely shot at all by the previous owner. It's going to make a great gun to pair with the 380 ! Couldn't be more pleased with both.

Worth noting-Shield is striker fired. Equalizer is single action. The striker fired trigger will have some take-up with safeties coming off. The single action has one thing to do. No surprise that it’s a cleaner trigger. No surprise at all. It does still come down to what you are used to for much of it.

The Sig P365-380 is my 380 CCW and the Equalizer is my 9mm CCW. I'm 71 and the nerve damage which means control and recoil sensitivity determine which one I carry. If I'm sitting most of the day I carry the P365-380 for comfort. I have to cross-carry due to an abdominal appliance on my right side. Arthritis also makes appendix-draw with my right hand difficult as well. With medical issues various adjustments may be required. Folks need to try various methods until they find one that works for them. Carrying different calibers is also related to physical issues. Home defense is a rifle and a 9mm pistol.

I agree with Mac on all aspects. I own a Shield and an Equalizer. The Equalizer is a little more accurate than the Shield probably due the the fact that the Equalizer has a slightly longer barrel which will improve accuracy and reduce recoil. The only thing I don't like about the Equalizer is the grip safety, which for me, is a minor inconvenience.

I don't often comment on the channels to which I watch and subscribe. I discovered your channel initially when I was looking for content that the lady of this manor would feel comfortable with. The content that you two produce also is compatible with what I look to add to my database aka my brain. I just purchased the 30 super carry ez on black friday at a local outdoor store. They were selling the s&w 30 sc shield ez for this sale at $250, plus at the time s&w was giving a $50 mail in rebate. So $200 when it's all said and done was a virtual steel. The cost of the ammo has come down since it was first released, I had a price of 50 rounds for $20ish. The thumb aid in the magazine is great. I have those in our Walther p22 and the Taurus tx22 and find this a nice feature for the 30 sc rounds. I don't have many pistols with a grip safety, just a colt 1991 a1 and now the 30 sc ez. I'm not a fan of the grip safety. And I wish it held more than 10 in the magazine.

I was happy to see you do comparisons. I have the original EZ in 9mm and a .380. My best friend has the Equalizer and I love it. I have contemplated getting the 30 Super Carry. I think that addition would be a nice balance. Hope you can do more comparisons. More firearm manufacturers need to jump on board your channel.Thank you both.

I've got a Shield Plus in 9mm and one in 30 SC. My own unscientific testing tells me they're about equal. The 9mm expands a bit more and the 30 SC penetrates a bit more. Also, after shooting 3 different 30 SC self defense loads and handloading my own, it's my opinion that the current crop of 30 SC factory loads are underloaded by a significant margin. Handloading can get it up to speed, Hodgson's data has a 100 grain bullet at 1336 and it's not hard to hit 1400 with no signs of over pressure. IMO the 30 SC is a winner.

Thinking about getting my first handgun. A local shop has a Sig Sauer P365 out the door for $537.00. It's a never fired but "used". Still in it's case. I like how it fits my hands, like the slide release, and the magazine releases. Opinions on the gun and price? Thank you!!

Watch their video on the P356 vs. the S&W Shield Plus. I was certain I was going to buy the P365 until I watched their video. Then I went to the range, rented both guns, and shot them extensively side by side. Ended up buying the Shield Pus and couldn't be happier.

@sidneezingara1976 I love SIGs too. The P229 is my favorite gun of all time, but is too big for CC, so I wanted something smaller and totally planned on the P365 until I shot the Shield Plus. Both great guns, but the Shield just shot better, more comfortable in my hand, less snappy, and for me, more accurate. You couldn't go wrong with either gun. Just remember that whatever you choose, practice continuously, especially if you are going to CC.

Months later when she was shown the equalizer she didn't like the grip safty??? Girl friend shot a 9m ez and liked it with the grip safty a non issue??? just an observation on my part. Thanks for demonstrating these. I've got the S&W Shield EZ in both 380 and 9mm, and don't even notice the grip safety. To be honest, I don't like the capacity of them tho. I love the way the 380 fires, but having trouble with the 9 mill. Can't hit anything with it, BUT I'm going to check the sights before giving up on it. Thanks again for the reviews.

Has Mac ever carried any 10mm firearms and/or his take on carrying them? Definitely interested in the .30 Super carry as a backup carry and one the wife can use easier. Still carry the S&W M&P Shield 1.0 after all these years and did replace the recoil spring as the factory bent over time I guess. She loves the new recoil spring so much easier for her to rack. Great video and shooting from both you guys and review on new S&W's!!!

Thanks for the review. Although 30SC may not make it in the market if there aren't more platform offerings pretty soon, it's a great idea with decent delivery. Would love a conversion slide/barrel for G43/43x or an AR PCC in 30SC. That way the trigger readjustment issue you experienced wouldn't be a problem.

I have the Shield plus and find it hard to shoot , have big hands and even with extended mag which helps I can't keep the recoil from moving the gun in my hand enough that I have to constantly redo my grip, thinking of wrapping with skater tape to bulk it up( really like the feel of the taurus tx22 backstrap bulge) and keep it from rotating....any thoughts?

I purchased both M&P9 Shield Plus and a M&P9 Compact and replaced with Apex Duty/Carry Kit by my gunsmith recently. I didn't realize that the trigger pull would be so much different (5.5 lbs. on M&P9 Shield Plus and 7 lbs. on the M&P9 2.0 Compact). Strange.., but I'll see at the range soon. Input please?
