It’s older but timeless. Cause it could be made now and would fit right in

It really is a neat firearm, took me a little by surprise after working with it and shooting it, I don’t know why I was thinking it would have a dated feel but it does not. Probably explains why you don’t see many of them I think people just hold on to them.

The 469 & 669 were very popular models with law enforcement, a nice upgrade in firepower and capacity from the old Model 36. Thank you for the review!

Ageed, smith was certainly listening to their main customer base back then and what cops wanted.

Thanks for the comment. Agreed, another good example of S&W engineering and market awareness during that period.

I edc a third generation Smith and Weston 5903 and I put a 4006 on layaway and I’m paying that off soon. I love the style of pistol.

@@thedailydefender1408as a young L.E.O. back in the 80's I also grabbed one of these as soon as they hit the market....S&W & shooters immediately noticed that this Model was inherently more accurate than it's larger cousins and S&W identified the lack of a barrel bushing & new lockup system was the source...so they incorporated those changes into the following generations and by the time they got to the Gen 3's such as the 5906 they had worked out all the bugs and the result was an outstanding pistol...

@tonyn152 Great informative video. I have the 469 as well and really like it. I bought mine around 1995 from a retired police officer who used it as his off-duty carry gun, and was in perfect condition. Mine was manufactured in 1988 and has the factory grips with fixed sights and came with 4 factory mags, and is still in beautiful condition to this day. I take it to the range about 6-8 times a year and it performs flawlessly. After getting my CCL, I determined that it was a bit heavy to carry, so was shopping for something smaller and lighter. Out of curiosity, I was looking to see how much I could get for a sale or trade-in, but everyone was only offering about $250 - $300, and a couple people said they wanted to buy it just for the mags, so for that amount I will just keep it, as I know it's worth more than that, at least to me. 🙂 Thanks for the great video!

You bet, the used smith autos seem to be a finicky market. The people interested in them seem willing to pay more for them and see the value but the shops seem to price them all over the place….glad you have yours and like it and kept it.

I just picked up one of these ( 469 ) and love it . Its a imported police gun and the barrel needs replaced. The rifling is just about gone. It looks like it was cleaned with a steel brush on a drill. Must have shot a lot of lead. Having a hard time finding a replacement barrel. Any referrals out there?

I would watch out for parts on ebay , pawn shops that do a lot with guns, and numrich.

I think I mentioned that I (is that too many I’s?) own a 469 here before. It was in good shape when purchased, but would randomly stop at the half cock notch. A google search led me to file the half cock notch off, and that solved the problem. The pistol has a firing pin safety, so the half Coke notch was kind of redundant anyway. I bought a S&W 6904 a year ago, and they eliminated the half cock notch from that pistol. Neither pistol has a rail, and that my preference. 👍👍👍👍

Thanks for the comment, I actually thought that half cock or what I perceived as a stacked trigger set up was kind of neat. To your point, they eliminated that on the 3rd Gen versions.

Those grips are stick on grips like talon. My 469 was made in 1988 and has an orange inset on front sight.

Well they didn’t until the late 90s / early 2000 when they did eventually stop production of their 3rd Gen guns. The low cost, light weight Glock took the LEO market by storm as we know.

@@joshuahawkins2743 totally agree and there are lots of comments and chatter wishing smith would bring them back, in some form or fashion. From what I understand, the original tooling was all destroyed or trashed, so they would have to start from scratch, and then cost. I doubt they would be a mainstream price pistol or even say what the Sig p series are right now. So is there a market for a $1200- 1500+ pistol of this type, I don’t know…..
