Hoppe’s #9 is a powder solvent, not oil. It is oil based but I would not suggest doing this.... you put way too much on too. Don’t to this to your piece people.

Also, check all external screws for tightness after a range trip. They may come loose on these small frame guns.

Excess oil acts as a magnet to collect carbon and other products of combustion. This is very harmful to your firearm. Only a very thin film of oil should be used. Be very conservative with oil....not liberal! Oil is also a very poor "cleaner" of firearms....solvents are.

I’m sorry man, I don’t like ripping people on how they do things and I won’t be as nasty as some of the commenters on here but the title of this video should be “How NOT to Clean and Oil your Revolver”. I have been cleaning/oiling guns for well over 30 years with great results and can tell you that is WAY too much oil and not in all the right places, not to mention, who oils a firearm BEFORE cleaning it. I personally use solvent to clean my firearms THEN oil (a tiny drop here and there). I know many people like to use an all in one such as a CLP which is fine but the HOPPES # 9 your using is not one of them, it’s strictly an oil. I know this video is a couple years old but you should seriously consider removing it cause as you can see from some comments there are some newbies on here looking for advice and your giving them bad information.

The guns used in my videos are usually already cleaned, and I try to mention that in the beginning. If they had just been fired then it yes it would definitely be worth doing more of a deeper clean. However I don't find much of a need for a strong solvent in most cases because I do keep them in good condition and clean them after every use (and sometimes in between). I mainly focus on oil because a lot of people conceal carry, and while you can put too much oil on it's better to have extra to stop it from rusting from the moisture picked up from your skin. I've seen FAR more guns rust due to people not applying enough oil than I have ever had wear out due to corrosion, which is why I always tend to be heavier handed when it comes to that. I agree that everyone is different and everyone has different results, and what works for one person may not work well for someone else. I do appreciate the feedback and probably will be recreating all these videos. Some of them have terrible sound quality, video, or other issues such as misstated facts or advice. I never claimed to be an expert, but only share what I know. I'm always learning new things and sometimes look back and think "wow I was really off there". But at the end of the day we're all only human and I try to do the best I can. If you have any tips I'm always open to learning more.

OMG , probably the worst advice ever regarding oiling your revolver. It’s not a car engine, these are hardened parts. Oil will just collect dirt and dust and cause problems. Why would you put anything on the breech face? Please just watch some professionals or read your manual from Smith and Wesson or Ruger.
