Smith & Wesson bodyguard vs Ruger LCP max comparison

yo what's up my wannabes today I'm going to compare these two pocket pistols and show you what both the bodyguard and the lcp max come with and how they shoot

I'm a Big S&W fan but I went with the Ruger LCP MAX, 10 +1 all day long! I don't need or want a laser in a "Belly Gun" Both are point and shoot guns. Ruger is a good shooter my wife and I both carry these down here in Florida the land of Shorts and T Shirts!

I love the Max so much I bought two of them. But I can't part with my Smith BG either. Even though it has less capacity, it's so thin and compact, I sometimes just carry it instead of the Max because it's even less bulky in my pocket. I also live in Florida so very compact guns are nice for summer clothing.

practicing one handed could be a good idea, defense situation may not be perfect, could be running, or have taken arm hit. nice review man, well said, would go with bodyguard for overall quality like you said and a lot others. enjoy training with both.

I have both of these pistols. The quality of the Smith is better, but both shoot very well, both are reliable. I like the capacity of the Max, but it is bulkier than the BG. I like both of these guns for different reasons. Both serve my defense needs well.

I agree. Fully-loaded, the extra bulk and weight of the MAX sometimes comes into play, prompting me to grab my Kel-Tec P32, along with its ten-round spare magazine.

@@shanecabbage2187 Here it is one year later and today as I type my reply to your post...I have the BG in my pocket. What a cool coincidence! Personally, I don't care for the laser version of the BG, I see no need for a laser in a pistol you will be using at very close range for defense. Don't rule out the Max either, it's a great shooter, very reliable and the capacity is great for a pocket pistol. This is why I own both, they both fill a niche for my daily carry needs.

Will the Bodyguard front sight fit the Max ? LCP'S have crappy POA POI and I've heard that the Bodyguard front sight is will fit and is shorter thus raises the POI up...

I had a BG 380……two in fact and I wanted to love it but as a relatively new shooter the gun was so difficult to shoot accurately outside of 15 feet but i can fix that with practice….that aside my issue with both was constant jamming/stovepipe and failure to lock back after last round…it’s a very finicky gun depending on ammo….it’s great looking , conceals great etc ….easy pocket carry….but just not reliable at least for me..sold them got a sig P365…..easier to shoot and after about 500 rounds has performed perfectly….BG 380 at least for me didn’t work out wish it did as I love SW products

I think I would go for the Ruger. I would like a safety, but also know that if you need it quick, it can be real easy to forget the safety and by the time you realize you didn't turn down the safety, you've lost maybe a couple shots already and in a tense moment it would be way more likely to be forgot. Plus with about double the rounds, that's a great little package. For a small gun, I've heard alot of reviewers say it feens good in the hand, evan some with fairly large hands. Just to bad it isn't a 9mm, but with its size, its more like to be in the pocket than most bigger or heavier guns if you need it.

I chose the bodyguard for myself, the long trigger pull and double stroke hammer striker design gives me peace of mindto carry it in my pocket without a safety.

​@LL-Worst The Ruger's trigger pull is a lot longer than the trigger's appearance would make you think. Still, I favor (as you seem to), a "regular" double-action trigger like that on a revolver. However, the Ruger's other attributes make it a no-brainer for me over a similarly-sized pistol holding only six rounds in its magazine.

The sights are good, but they have a problem with shooting very low, and the slide fits so loose on the rails that it groups like a shotgun. At least that was the case with mine.

Had a bodyguard m&p 380 with the laser traded it for a babyrock then bought a ruger .the m&p didn't hold up to the number of rounds I put through a pistol

@@johnslattery2371 About 700-800 rounds…..No malfunctions of any kind….I keep it loaded up with Hydra Shock in the summer but lately I have Winchester Flat nose ball rounds in the MAX…..They cycle flawless and are a good defense round as well…..

I'll stick with my Bodyguard for pocket carry. I have an LCP and LCP II, but the LCP Max really doesn't offer anything over my Sig P365 which can be had in .380 or 9mm, with or without a manual safety.

The max is in a weird place between the micro 9 and bodyguard size. I had a max and got rid of it because it felt just as thick as the Sig. It is lighter, but had terrible accuracy and shot so low that the sights were useless.

Yes the max is much lighter and smaller so it comfortably fits in a pocket. P365 is two times as big and almost twice as heavy. Max is 3/4” thick. P365 is 1” thick and doesn’t comfortably fit in a pocket. Prints like crazy so you will need to carry IWB or strong side hip. P365 is good for wearing with concealed in winter clothing but not summer clothes. The LCP II 22lr which is perfect pocket pistol, the LCP Max 380 which is also a perfect pocket pistol, deep conceal or backup, a Sig P365 9mm and Sig P320 m18 9mm which in different combinations or alone are each great for different situations.

@@properfpv7160 The P365 and LCP Max are nearly identical in thickness. Even the original LCP is thicker than 3/4". The P365 is only slightly taller than the Max, with the slide being about half an inch longer on the Sig. Now there is a noticeable difference in weight between the two. Add to that, the option of either .380 or 9mm for the Sig.

I run into the conundrum of using a double stack .380 when its noticeably thicker as the entire reason I want to use a pocket .380 is the slim and small form factor. Yes 9mm is just as slim because .380 is basically 9mm short but the smaller the gun you go the less pleasant it is to handle and shoot. So I wouldn't really want a 9mm in the bodyguard size but I still want the bodyguard size, which is why I like the idea of the .380 bodyguard. If I start getting into double stack thickness I'd rather go with something like the p365 which is fairly small and slim for its capacity and caliber.

Ruger LCP Max is an amazing achievement. Better sights, better trigger, better capacity. (12rds) You barely know it's on you. Sig 365 (380) is the only one that comes a close 2nd. It's a joke comparing the bodyguard to it.

@@awannabewithagun2975 No disrespect. There is not much out there to compare it too. My high calibers 9 and 40 are in the safe now. I haven't looked back. I love this little pistol. 500 rds not one malfunction. 13 pound recoil spring upgrade and underwood ammo will keep me safe. Thanks.

I am gonna just turn off the sound. As soon as I heard “Clip” I am muting this video and seeing what the bodyguard is. I have the LCP but this is stupid. Clips are usually used in something like a M1-Garand or a top loading/Side loading gun. A clip is not a Magazine. A clip is not used normally when it pertains to striker fired pistols, modern hunting rifles, etc. I said normally because I could be wrong and there be an outlier where someone has built one of these with stripper clips or clips. I have seen them for loading AR-15 magazines (magpul style) but that’s without the MAGAZINE being loaded. The clip is a separate aid to help load the MAGAZINE.

It’s not a clip, it’s a magazine and I’m not sure it is such a good idea to make a video w/two loaded mags. Too easy to make a mistake, forget the mag is loaded and have a ND. Also, you’re shoving those guns into a waistband or a pocket w/o a holster, VERY dangerous. You need to take some safety classes, take down this video and remake one w/all the firearm safety rules in play. You’ve violated almost all of the safety rules & don’t know what you’re doing.

It looks like Wannabe kept having to press the mag release to insert a mag. Is that the way the BG is designed or a malfunction? If it is by design, it's stupid! I would take the Ruger over the S&W because of the capacity, better sights and trigger pull. I have a Taurus G2 9mm and it has a long, deep trigger pull like the BG. I have come to dislike it a lot!
