There have instances of grave robbers who waited until the casket had been lowered into the ground and the dirt partially filled to return at night, pried open the casket, extracted the gold teeth, diamond ring, other precious stones, etc.

The Funeral Director will remove any ring, especially a diamond ring, before sealing the casket. Why would you bury a diamond ring or precious stone with the deceased?

I will insist on what I consider decorum. If I spend $10,000 (or probably more) on a beautiful vault, casket, escort, funeral ... the funeral director is paid & I will insist they put the casket inside the vault, seal it, & lower it into the ground. Then have the backhoe guy fill it in later. I don’t need him there yet.
