Can't figure what they were melting copper for.... I know I once found a little very rounded blob of copper in a pit, but that's it - it was years ago, and I cant remember where it came from. Hope you and your family have a great holiday. Looks like you guys may have another series of wet storms coming your way - stay dry! Maybe we'll get some high water on the rivers and move some gold around.

@@Smithsgold Don't know but i did some research out of "The Metallurgy of Gold" by Sir T.K. Rose (my mentor) and after the copper plates would reach a certain thinness from the abrasive action on them, they would throw the copper, mercury, and the gold into a furnace and fire it. Melting it into cast ingots to be shipped to refiner. These plates usually sat toward the header end of the sluice run and usually they just scraped the amalgam off, added fresh, and kept on producing. They very seldom shut down for a thorough cleaning and when they did they replaced the copper amalgam plates. Just a thought, you might want to drill one to get some shavings and run it thru a 50% HNO3 acid test. Dissolve the Cu and any black or brown substance left? Just clean and fire. G'day!

Glad you saw a Bobcat Jeff, I used to see them all the time on my hikes, haven't seen one in quite awhile, good to know they are still out there, I do come across their tracks. Maybe Gary wants it as a pet. It's good to work in the sun in the winter, feels so good, cold winter this year. Of course Gary gets the gold. Great lead cleanup boys. I really like the idea of power pole gold, going to have to try it sometime. You two are great and excellent vid to end the year. About the same as the SDC but that’s Gary’s TDI not the ones you can buy. I’m pretty sure his is more powerful then the newer ones that Whites put out before selling to Garrett

We are not sure but we think it’s been melted either by forest fire or the old timers did it for some reason as one of my Gold Nuggets is a bit different looking like it’s part copper also
