The National Zoological Park, commonly known as the National Zoo, is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. It is part of the Smithsonian Institution and does not charge admission. Founded in 1889, its mission is to "provide engaging experiences with animals and create and share knowledge to save wildlife and habitats".
Exhibits
Asia Trail
A group of Asia-themed exhibits opened in 2006. Along with the giant pandas, the area also displays sloth bears, fishing cats, red pandas, a clouded leopard, Asian small-clawed otters, and Asian elephants.
David M. Rubenstein Giant Panda Habitat
The zoo's Giant Panda Habitat features three outdoor areas with animal enrichment, as well as an indoor area with a rocky outcrop, a waterfall, and viewing areas. The zoo's pandas, named Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, are on loan from the China Wildlife Conservation Association, and will live at the zoo until 2023. They are the focus of a research, conservation, and breeding program that aims to preserve the species. The exhibit is designed to replicate the rocky, lush terrain of the pandas' natural habitat.
Elephant Trails
In spring 2008, the National Zoo began construction on Elephant Trails, a new home for its Asian elephants. The first part of the $52 million project opened in September 2010, expanding the zoo's former elephant area with a 5,700-square-foot (530 m2) barn, two new yards (one with a pool), and a quarter-mile (400 m) walkway through woods,[30] a total of 1.9 acres (0.77 ha) of outdoor space, bringing the total size of Elephant Trails to 2 acres (0.81 ha).
Lemur Island
Lemur Island is a moated island that is home to a group of ring-tailed lemurs and black-and-white ruffed lemurs.
The Small Mammal House
The majority of the zoo's smaller mammal species live in the Small Mammal House.
The American Trail
The American Trail exhibit houses a variety of North American species.
The Great Ape House
The Great Ape House is separated into two sets of enclosures. One houses seven orangutans. The other houses five western lowland gorillas.
Gibbon Ridge
Gibbon Ridge is an enclosure housing two siamangs (a male named Bradley and a female named Ronnie).
Great Cats on Lion and Tiger Hill
Great Cats is separated into three enclosures. The zoo rotates 6 lions and 3 tigers between the three exhibits.
The Cheetah Conservation Station
This is an outdoor exhibit designed to mimic the African savanna and educate visitors about cheetahs and what is being done to preserve them in the wild. The main part of the Cheetah Conservation Station consists of two enclosures separated by a fence. One enclosure houses the cheetahs, while the other houses the Grévy's zebra. Other animals on display in the area include scimitar oryxes, dama gazelles, Rüppell's vultures, sitatunga, red river hogs, maned wolves, Abyssinian ground hornbills and lesser kudu.
The Kids' Farm
The Kids' Farm is aimed primarily at children and housing domesticated livestock. The Kids' Farm due to budgetary constraints. However, a $1.4 million donation from State Farm Insurance allowed the exhibit to remain open.
The Reptile Discovery Center
The zoo's reptile and amphibian house exhibits seventy species of reptiles and amphibians.

The wallabies live in a side yard next to the small mammal house. There's a trail next to the buildings entrance that leads to it (when you're showing the front of the building it would've been on the left), and other exhibits behind the building (white-nosed coatis, black howler monkeys, and goeldi's monkeys). You actually partially see it at 17:28, it's the wooden boardwalk behind the building sign.

China is taking back ALL the pandas from the USA and UK zoos! Political wrongdoing! Since 1972 American zoos have leased pandas at over one million dollars per panda and every American born panda legally belongs to China and will be taken to China!

I am from Wash. DC and used to LOVE taking my bike, some snacks, a drink, a rain poncho, a watch and most of all my best friend Micheline and riding out from down in Georgetown out to the Nat’l Zoo for the day.! Quite a long ride for a couple of elementary school girls! Two little girls 8 and 10 yrs old! You could actually DO that safely back then! Tom! Just love your travel docu/vids! They are excellent, up close, detailed, personal and long enough without being too long! (Hope that makes sense to you! Lol! ~££~

At 23:45 my brother used to have a chinchilla growing up. He was so cute his name was Ted. We had this cage for the chinchilla and everytime you walked by the cage he would circle around the cage. And I really liked seeing how he would take a bath we had this white dust and he would roll in it and that's how he would get clean. He was so soft. He started having teeth problem and we took him to the vet and after we got back from the vet he started to go down hill with his health and he died and that was the saddest day for my brother and me. I miss him. He was a great pet.

Hey Tom! I apologize about the late comment, I’ve been working lots and have been busy with school so naturally, it took me longer to watch it. But I really enjoyed this video! Such a big Zoo! That map is pretty deceiving! I’ve got some time stamps for ya my friend! 15:12: So when I heard you say you don’t have chipmunks in Florida I was like huh? What? Just because I see them everywhere! But lots of animals that I see almost on a daily basis, you don’t see, like moose for example. 17:12: Their name is pronounced Shah-Val-Skees Horse. Trust me, I twisted my head the first time I seen it too. 29:50: I would be one of those Subscribers 🙋‍♂️. 38:20: Now that right there is the biggest Black Headed Python I’ve ever seen. Absolute unit. 41:00: You mistaked these for baby Aldabra Tortoises but these are adult radiated tortoises. Endangered species endemic to Madagascar. 47:42: I find it absolutely adorable that your dog’s name is cow 🤣🥰! 14:12: You can really tell that these 2 are female bison. Smaller size and the hump on the back is much less prominent than in male bison. 53:42: So before my grandparents moved to my hometown ( they lived in a town an hour and thirty minutes away previously ), there was a pond behind an abandoned cabin on their property. One year a beaver moved in and I used to watch her for hours on end. At the time, I was 9 years old. After winter she wasn’t there anymore, I guessed she went back to her family group. I named her Walleye. Don’t ask me why, I don’t even know lol! 😂👌 🦫 Fun fact: Beaver in French is Castor. And that wraps up time stamps. Now before I close my comment, let’s make the King himself smile, shall we? That means praise! You are still my favourite, even though I now follow 39 channels including yourself. You rule over all of them Tom, you come out on top as King. Just like Godzilla showed Ghidorah who rules Earth ( Godzilla: King Of The Monsters reference. ) Well, that wraps up my comment for this video! One last thing, I won’t be watching your latest video because it’s not animal related HOWEVER, I left a like to help the algorithm. But I already know that you respect me only watching your animal content. Looking forward to your reply Tom!
