Interesting fact Robert, my great grandfather(Borunda)owned the City Market. The Riverside dance hall has so much history, Steve Crosno was responsible for bringing James Brown to the venue. My great great grandfather Demetrio Gonzales helped with the original construction of the church, transportation of the volcanic rock from the mesa. There’s a back county road leading to the area named after him. My father has one of the oldest grape vineyards that dates back to the Spanish settlement right behind the church. Thank you for acknowledging our little community means a lot 🙏🏻

It’s my honor to have found the City Market . I really enjoy stopping in from time to time to grab something on my way. I love the area very much and always look forward to my next return. I’m glad you like my adventure to your families history. Be sure to share the video we made to honor your family and community. Thanks, Smitty.

I would like to meet with you to film a follow-up interview about more of the history of the area. My wife and our son also have connections to your community as her ancestors came through the area with the Onate expedition / settlers. She has a strong love of New Mexico history and inspires me to seek out old history before it’s forgotten. She and I would love to learn more. Thanks, Smitty

I enjoy these videos. I taught school and coached football at Cruces High in the late 1970s. Really loved that area.
