This is really awesome of you to shed some light on our little community out here, I saw you that day, in fact my blue Silverado is in your frame as you were leaving the store, we chatted a bit. We are a friendly little neighborhood and we enjoy that people come out here to appreciate our history. Marissa is right in saying we all have connections out here to one another, most of the people that still live out here are families that have been here since the 1800s. Mine in particular arrived in the early/mid 1800s in fact the house I live in right behind the city market was built in 1832 and still has the original vigas and latillas, as does parts of Chope’s restaurant, most of the houses and buildings out here were built between the 1800s and early 1900s and have been mildly refurbished to say the least. This little store in particular has sustained the vast majority of our community for about a century. The original owners were kind, awesome people as is their daughter Estela and now granddaughter Marissa. My 90 year old grandfather and 80 year old grandmother could tell you stories for days about the Riverside Dance Hall and how the community used to get together at Lofie’s (Eulogio) city market to hear the radio and watch black and white tv when they first came out. My grandparents, my parents, myself and now my kids and grandbaby still shop here on almost a daily basis, we love our little neighborhood store and just like you, I hope it’s here forever. It’s a gem for sure, glad you loved it!

Interesting fact Robert, my great grandfather(Borunda)owned the City Market. The Riverside dance hall has so much history, Steve Crosno was responsible for bringing James Brown to the venue. My great great grandfather Demetrio Gonzales helped with the original construction of the church, transportation of the volcanic rock from the mesa. There’s a back county road leading to the area named after him. My father has one of the oldest grape vineyards that dates back to the Spanish settlement right behind the church. Thank you for acknowledging our little community means a lot 🙏🏻

I'm your neighbor to the east in Timberon. I've enjoyed your videos. The views of the organ mountains are special. Like you I had never seen a trike in my life but I watched a lot of videos and got a pretty good Idea about how they opperated. I studied video after technical videos that I could find. With the knowlage I gained from hours on youtube I made a big purchase. I found a Fat Tad Dumont with a Rohloff hub and a 750 w Bafang and 2 batteries at Utah Trike. It works well in dirt if it's not too steep and rocky up hill. It works really well on paved roads. If you are going to the City Of Rocks Be sure and check out HWY 152 from Hills Boro to Santa Rita. It has so many curves and cattleguards that it slows the cars way down and it's justresurfaced. There no sholders to speak of. The sites are incredible. The road to the Gila Clif Dwellings should be good too. I've only ridden that road on motorcycles, so I can't say what the trike ride would be like. High speed and siteseeing don't mix. Keep up the videos, Ben

I like the strategy of having multiples of toys. It started for my family with Funcycles on the beach. Before I knew it, I had a fleet for hubby and kids. Those all wore out and rusted beyond repair, so we moved to semi-recumbents and started riding on our quiet residential roads. I keep those for guests and family to run around town. Now we have a new paved trail and I want to visit other paved trails, so I have a folding tadpole. It really helps if you have a narrower choice of terrains and interests! 🤣😂

I agree, My youngest son told me this morning that if I get a fat tad , he would ride my charge. So I just may increase the trike garage for another trike. A fat tad pole will expand my adventures. Thanks Smitty

Looking forward to Part 2! Pretty much, I just ride flat, multiuse trails for now, so e-assist is something for my future. But when I upgrade, I think I will have something like your system. I am too picky about my accessories to buy a fully equipped trike. I have been using a rearview mirror that attaches to my sunglasses for many years. I turn my head to view as necessary. I don't like the mirrors that stick out. They are in the way for transporting, etc. Also, no fenders for the same reason (I am a dry weather rider). Like you, I have a canopy, but it has an alum frame. The downside is that you need to be a contortionist to get in and out lol. But the upside is that I have a polarized visor that slips over the frame (made to slip on to a car visor), and it can be moved and swivels as required, and folds flat out of the way when not in use. The sky here is gray most of the time, but I use the canopy anyway due to glare. Even with sunglasses 😎 because glare also comes from above. (The canopy is also easily noticed, for safety.)
@robertsmith241925 күн бұрын
Hi , thanks for the comments. I also like no fenders, but in New Mexico, one minute it is clear, and next, a fast-moving rain will move in. I can't use the helmet mirror set up because of vision issues. I wish I could , maybe after I get my cataracts removed. What brand of top do you have? I built my top and I love it. I'm working on part 2 now for uploading to KZbin. Thanks Smitty

E-assist info, history lesson, and the beautiful view of the desert. This video has everything! Once I am able to purchase a recumbent trike of my own, I will be set for life. I'm eyeing a few Catrike models but now I'm wondering if the Terratrike brand is the way to go after seeing you in action with the Charge. 3300 dollars is a high price point for a Terratrike and a bit surprising. I'm leaning towards a racer-type recumbent and Terratrike has the Spyder for that. Again, thanks for the video. I miss living in the desert so the landscape of your ride was truly breathtaking for me. I enjoyed your wise words about getting out and riding. By the way, as you were going along the highway - it sounded like the Charge was lifting off from a runway and readying to take flight. Might have to watch that again just to be sure, ha.
@robertsmith2419Ай бұрын
Funny you say that about my Terratrike taking flight. Because that’s the way the Charge makes me feel like I’m flying. Good luck with the Spyder, and enjoy the ride! Smitty

I know how you feel. I'm now riding a Trident Spike with the N380 planetary hub. This spring my town opened a new trail near me, so I road 3.7 miles per day until a week or so ago (with no assist, but no hills either). I sure miss it, but the rainy season has begun and we will have about ten inches per month until spring. Arizona dreamin'...

Can you make a video of all the settings for the charge when you’re going up heal or just straight. I plan on riding it to work everyday for a year rain or sunshine. But I would appreciate before I buy it. Will it get you up the hill with help on the assist? I have a lot of hills in my area. I want to be sure it’s worth it. Or maybe I just but the Bosch. Thank you brother. Your videos are great.
@robertsmith2419Ай бұрын
Hi, yes, I can make content per your request. I also have lots of hills in my area as well. I can explain how the Charge electronic system works. Level 0 is no assist , Level 1 will assist you to 9 mph as long as you are pedaling. level 2 increases your speed to a slightly higher speed with the same amount of effort as long as you keep pedaling. This same is true all the way to level 5, which will achieve 20 mph with very little effort as long as you are pedaling. If you stop pedaling, the assist stops providing you any help. The charge also has a throttle, which is a true throttle "meaning," the more one twists the throttle, the more assist the motor will provide all the way to full throttle to 20 mph. Battery life is a bit harder to explain. But if I could make it simple, I will say it this way. If one is pedaling hard and the rider is applying torque from leg power, then the percentage of assist will be lower. In this scenario, applying higher rider torque will lessen the battery usage. The opposite effect will be encountered if the rider is in any assist level but really not putting much effort from leg torque, then battery usage will increase. For me, I tend to ride in level 0 and use the throttle to assist me when I need or just want to increase my speed. I now feel my charge will accomplish over 40 miles on one charge with my riding style and maybe even more than that. I hope this helps. Thanks Smitty

Hi, I'm glad you like my flashy shoes. I buy most of my riding gear and accessories for my trike from Amazon. Amazon is easy to return items to if they don’t fit. See info on shoes. They were on sale and fit me true to size listed. They were not expensive at all and I actually prefer them over much more expensive shoes that I have. They are light weight, yet the shoe is a bit firmer, which I like for pedaling. They wash good in the wash machine. I think I will order another pair. Thanks for watching Smitty

Nice ride! I wonder why some museums do, and some do not allow videoing? I never get a really clear answer. I also ask first, especially if I have to travel any distance. Question: How do the front fenders attach to the trike on the outside? I believe they attach to the brakes on the inside. If I can find some (out of stock), I am definitely adding them after a nasty experience last week, too gross to mention here. 😂
@robertsmith24192 ай бұрын
I know , strange how different museums let filming and others do not. The front outer side of the fenders screw into existing threaded holes in the center of the hub. The inside stays bolt to a plate that is exchanged in the front disc brakes. The new plates have tabs on each end that are threaded to accept the fender stays. Hope this helps. Fenders are a must if it has rained, is raining, or is about to do so. My sun top keeps me dry and snug. My lower legs can get wet if I get caught in a rain. I carry cheap rain gear in my bag if it starts to pour. Thanks, Smitty

I understand your point. I can not speak on behalf of Wiz Wheelz, but let me give you my point of view on why they won't mod their models of Trike. Terra Trike is a price leader in the market. To do so, Terra trike keeps costs to the consumer down by limiting production time. You might have luck at laid-back cycles or even Utah trike. Modifications might be done by a shop rather than Terra trike. Thanks, Smitty

@robertsmith24192 ай бұрын
I'm glad you like my content. I've been posting content about riding my charge and also about working on my charge. I hope you've seen them. I have gotten my charge up over 30 mph, but I don't like to do so. I like to cruise around 9 mph. When I use e assist, I usually either leave the computer on level 0 and use the throttle, or I will select level 1, which will maintain 9 mph. Level 1 is a lower speed setting. I have 5 levels plus 0 using only the throttle for assistance. So, in reality, the charge has 6 selections to choose from. The longest I've ridden in the above manner was approximately 20 miles in hilly riding, and at the end of that ride, I still had 56 % battery level. I talk with wizwheelz often. I will share your thoughts about them not promoting the charge. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It helps my channel. Smitty.

I've ridden approximately 22 miles and still had 56%. I ride a lot of up and down hills. This is the most I've done. I'm getting more bold as I ride more and more in turn learning trust in my trike as I also get to have a true understanding of the trikes range. Thanks, Smitty

So many KZbin videos I’ve been seeing just drive around and show you the road and you don’t get to see anything else. And even know why people waste their time making those. I explore the area to get exercise but at the same time I've always loved history and historical places so I decided to do them together. I find three things by riding through different towns and places in this manner. 1 . Get to know the location. 2. I study the location a bit before my ride. 3. I always meet folks while I'm riding. For what ever reason when I ride my recumbent trike I guess I'm more approachable for people to talk to then by walking or even on a bicycle ? Not sure why but I've noticed this. Billy The Kid became Brushy Bill Roberts and went to hiding, possibly in Mexico. There are many questions about whom Pat Garrett actually couldn't see in the dark, or who they buried, claiming they got him. Brushy Bill surfaced and met a reporter on camera with his story at White Sands, and looked just like the photo, but older...and not seen again.. He claims, since he was always a target, that he was never without his gun esp. at night and to the outhouse. He certainly was an escape expert!
