Smoke Detector vs. Carbon Monoxide Beeps

Smoke detectors decided to go off at 5:45 am this morning. Made 4 or 5 LOUD chimes and then never went off again. All new, installed within the last year. Got paranoid it was CO, but the portable CO detector has been at 0 PPM all day (about 18-19 hours from typing this) needless to say it was a rude awakening.

Mine did that as well. Did it ever do it again? After I went to the store and got new batteries, it stopped before I could replace them.

@@amberferchaud734 I think sometimes dust can get the sensors dirty and cause a false alarm like I mentioned. Blow some air in to it if you have a compressor. If not, a local gas station should have free air for tires, just use that.

Every room? My last three apartments the smoke & carbon monoxide detector was always in the middle between the bedroom and bathroom upstairs and between the kitchen and living room downstairs.

I recognize those ionization type smoke alarms because electricians just installed 8 in my house. They are very poor protection against the most common fire in a house, a smouldering fire. So thus far, I've swapped out 6 of those already for photoelectric based smoke alarms that actually work. An ionization alarm can be half an hour to 1.5 hours late in detecting smoke. The ionization alarms also give more nuisance alarms from burned toast because those particles are much finer than real smoke, which won't fool a photoelectric alarm. They are only about $3 difference in price, yet 95% of people use ionization alarms not aware of this HUGE safety concern. The ionization alarms work well with a fast flaming fire, but it's only seconds faster for this than an ionization based alarm.

Um ok well mine went off this morning without cause and didn’t sound like that. I had to whack it with a mop a few times to shut it off.

Smoke is hot (As is CO) so it will rise.

He can be heard clearly. Plus the video was posted over a year ago so he is probably wearing to protect himself and the other person from the virus.
