Ha, I saw this boat set a speed record in my back yard in the '70's @ Longbeach Marine Stadium ( 203.60 ) this boat forever etched awesome memories for me. Still my favorite ever. 😊 2nd place goes to BFF # 535 Crazy Horse. True pioneers of the sport. Ty so much for sharing this great memory. Be safe out there. Dan

In the late 70s and early 80s, we followed the boat races circuit anytime they ended up in SoCal . I remember (and have the photo somewhere) of a final at Lake Ming. Smoke on the water versus Western Mag Special. I don't remember the ETs but the speeds at the finish line were 200.00 MPH and 199.99 MPH. Something let go at the just before the finish line and there was a trail of fire for quite some distance. If my memory serves correctly, this is right at the time when they were chasing 200 MPH. Lot of great memories. Thank You.

Hell Yeah!!! Love this I spent many weekends at Marine Stadium, Ming and yes Ski Land in Perris Cal. Was at Marine Stadium when Mary Rife took Mario Andretti in Proud Mary down the 1/4 mile

Memories are awesome for sure. Sad when the condos went in at top of the race course at Longbeach and noise complaints ruin a maybe 3 times a yr event even tho their balconies faced the liquid 1/4 mile.

Thats a bad ride! Grew up with my dad having jet boats, hoping to add another one to the collection one of these days. You west coast guys definitely have the advantage over the jet boat scene!

That's why Frank stopped driving The Smoke Boat - he was losing too many of his friends in crashes. It's a dangerous sport and those guys are rock stars!!!
