Awesome collector. Nathan did a great job. My thought is the deflector is going to give you a bottom up hot spot in the middle of your grate. On my pit I removed mine and replaced it above the grate and it moved the hot spot closer to the firebox. It’s worth a try. Great video and that Yoder looks badass

Go back to deflector I would just get punch plate and run punch plate the whole length as a tuning plate be good to go no hot spots good air flow Hammer down big fire

Nathan just shipped an improved version to someone. Huge stack, slightly thinner wall steel for weight savings, let me know if you are interested in corresponding with him to get your own. He also offers a "bolt on" version.

Most likely cost. Also, some smoker builders believe in different styles for their original cooking methods, its what they became acustomed to and so they built them that way.
