I've had the opportunity twice to buy a Smoke Wagon single barrel from the distillery. I was given notice several days prior via email. Each time they became available, they sold out instantly. Great review.

I thought they used malted rye instead of malted barely

These are typically fantastic. I have a 12 yr and an 8 yr bourbon from either 2020 or 2021 (before the hiatus on the bourbon SiBs) and both of those are stupid good. I just picked up a barrel 41 that will officially drop tomorrow to the public, so I’ll be anxiously awaiting that one.

If you time it right, you go out to Vegas around March 19th, pick your barrel, and then stick around for the first weekend of the March Madness tournament!

I like the rye spice. Spice has always been a differentiator for SW. I have noticed a drift towards rye spice in the UCUF batches in more recent times and I’m not mad at it.

I’ve heard Smoke Wagon is pretty good but always have passed on it due to price. Isn’t it sourced from MGP? I will pass on a five year single barrel of MGP for $100. For comparison, I picked up Penelope 9 year barrel strength for under 70 (different mash bill I know). Someday I’ll try a pour of Smoke Wagon. It’s definitely a “try before buy” for me. What am I missing?

Jeez that bottle and mashbill would be nirvana for me. Absolutely. You're better hunters though. I shop at Party Mart and a couple Cox's, one Evergreen, TW, 3 Krogers, Westport Wine, but not the same ones you do. I shouldn't complain about not getting this stuff because you're doing it right in my town. 😂

I have a barrel release that I recently picked up from Smoke Wagon. It's 51% rye, 48% corn, and 1% mb. It's delicious!
