I would say yes, but make sure to keep spritzing so that it does not dry out

is the sportsman sub-programing still PID?

Yes, it is. PID but there is a default that puts a few pellets in the burn pot every so often to ensure that there's a fire. So on a hot day you'll have to have a lot of airflow to keep it in those lower temperatures.
