Try packing in the pellets or wood - tight - to a couple of inches from the secondary holes and then lighting from the top. You will be amazed. This approach is counterintuitive, and all your good logic will fight doing this and pretty much convince you it will fail before you start... just try anyway. This stove is a TLUD (top-lit-up-draft) stove is designed to gasify and then re-burn those gasses. You are starting the fire like classical fire-pit, which is a common misunderstanding when getting to know the properties of this kind of stove.

Thanks, I ordered this on Thursday and got it on Sunday (yesterday). Works well! One thing I'd like to try to get is a spark screen for the top as I had some newspaper, cardboard and normal household burnables in there and some of the material floated up and landed on my composite decking. I tried some hardware cloth, but I didn't have a great way of getting it to stay put without putting the top rim piece on top of the screen, which makes it harder to add more fuel. Anyone figured out a good fitting spark screen for the top to keep burning material from floating out in windy conditions?

I just loaded my card to purchase from Solo Stove for thier spring sale, but truly the cookzoom, is more than just enough. Thank you for the work you did.

Thank You. I was in the same boat And debated between the two but ultimately decided on this one because of how small it packs up yet how big it is when it’s together. The cooking bracket is a bonus also. I was excited to make this video because I could not find anything on this to actually show how it works when I was deciding between the two so hopefully some people find it useful.

It seems to put out a lot more smoke than a solo stove. Maybe it’s a real good camera. I could see black smoke coming off the fire pit. I do know that none are truly smokeless. I don’t mind the smoke. I’m just comparing the options. To save money. Buy no fire pit. Save money. Best smokeless fire pit. Spend money ( I don’t know what’s the best with all the competition out there). I do like that it has a stand for the pit and a pot.
@JeremiahMcintosh10 ай бұрын
Honestly, it depends how hot you have it if you haven’t loaded and super hot with dry wood you’ll have essentially almost no smoke. If the woods, a little bit wet and the fire is just getting going, then you will definitely have some smoke until it gets heated up. Overall I’ve been extremely satisfied with it.
@lamarwilliams18510 ай бұрын
@@JeremiahMcintosh Thanks for your response. Let’s say; you just use it in the backyard. I understand that people like what they like. I’m looking at the practical aspect of it. I noticed in a video of yours. You made a small smokeless pit. You can make a larger one. I do understand that it saved time. You plan on spending time burning wood anyway. I don’t mind the smoke from burning debris. Your neighbors may beg to differ. A junk yard would have old rims or 55 gallon drums or dryer etc… I don’t have the tools to make my own. I would not spend time on making a smokeless fire pit if I did. I do like the concept. It’s great to have people hang around a camp fire. I made a similar purchase. Flat pack camping grill. I can just burn wood on the ground. Forest rangers want a fire contained. I cannot control the sparks. I just want a excuse to tell a judge in case something happens.

Question: Does heat emanate from sides as well? Or does the heat mainly emanate from the top?
@JeremiahMcintosh10 ай бұрын
Yes you still get some radiating heat from the sides but not as much by your feet. You do get more from the top though.

Since you posted this video about a year ago, I was wondering how the metal in your Coozoom has held up over the year. I read other reviews on amazon saying that the inners rusted after only several uses so I was wondering how well this has held up over time and with frequent use. I want to be able to burn paper and natural cardboard (not corrugated or stuff with lots of plastic or paint on it) to reduce my footprint on the landfill and recycle plants.
@JeremiahMcintosh Жыл бұрын
It’s actually holding up great however when not in use I clean it out and store it in my garage or keep it covered to keep the rain out. It did get rained on one time during use and I had no problems with it however, if you left it out in the rain uncovered all the time and it had wet coals in it, I could see the tray inside rusting out over time.

Nice video! Did you notice the discoloration on the outside of the stove after the first fire? I have a friend with a solo stove and his hasn’t done that. Any other negatives you have found to the one you tested?
@JeremiahMcintosh2 жыл бұрын
Yes as you can see when I started it on day 2 of burning the pellets there was some discoloration but I think you get that with most stoves like this from my research. So far I love it and have not found any negatives however I’ve only had three fires in it so far Because of the weather here. I didn’t show it in the video because I was done filming but after I showed burning those pellets I threw all kind of stuff in this fire pit including some dead foliage from my outside planters a bunch of dry leaves that were on my patio and multiple buckets of sticks that were laying around the yard and it incinerated it all with very little ash at the end as I showed in the video when I dumped out the screen the next day. I debated for days between this and the Solostove Ranger because the Ranger has been on sale for about $230 with the bottom stand but I ultimately decided this one because of the included cooking bracket and the size and I’ve had no regrets yet. With that being said I have not had the opportunity to use a Solostove for comparison but like I said very happy with this one so far especially for the sale price of $140 as of 3/12/22. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Solo stove has much less smoke and has a heat deflector that is great for people sitting around and will keep you warm. However, the Solo is expensive as a negative.

The amount of smoke is about the same once you get it nice and hot that will be the same with any smokeless fire pit. One thing I like about this one better is the way it packs up for transport!

Make a tube out of that stainless steel mesh......about as bi around as a coke can........put tube in middle of the stove and fill around it with wood pellets until it is about 4" from the holes at the top.......paper and fatwood in the middle of the tube will get it lit......I think you will be pleasantly surprised......you might have to experiment a little with the diameter of the tube.....

Have you tried filling it with wood or pellets and lighting it from the top and let it burn downwards?
@JeremiahMcintosh Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t work as well that way unless you leave a hole in the center for air circulation inside because it will block all the air holes in the bottom.
@ryefield73 Жыл бұрын
@@JeremiahMcintosh Leon is quite right, this design is a TLUD (Top Lit Up Draft) stove, or a simple gasifier that is composed of a vertical tube that is filled with small pieces of wood, or densified biomass like pellets, balls or small briquettes. This is called a 'fuel bed. ' It is ignited at the TOP, and underfed with primary air from a grate at the bottom. This is quite different from a traditional fire. Give it a try.
@sadfur8728 Жыл бұрын
@@ryefield73 is the flame self limiting doing it that way, so there wouldn't be any concern about it getting out of control with such a large load of wood?

@@JeremiahMcintosh okay another quick question: do you find that it smokes less after “breaking it in” by burning off any manufacturing residue that you mentioned might be the cause of the smoke in the video?
@JeremiahMcintosh2 жыл бұрын
It actually smokes when you first start it till you get it nice and hot but I think this is how all smokeless fire pits are. After you get it nice and hot and it starts burning from the secondary burn holes there is way less smoke and what smoke there is pretty much goes straight up from the heat. I saw more smoke the first day I lit it but i think that was because it was very windy and new.
