Oh yeah, I laughed like crazy during that scene. Smiley was such a wonderfully versatile entertainer and his musical numbers here show he could sell a song that he also wrote. He'd have been great in a Broadway musical like "Oklahoma!". All those years seeing him on Petticoat Junction and I never knew until now what a talented and well loved screen artist he had been.

I love the old B grade westerns and the Durango Kid series was usually a notch better than the average one. Charlie Starret cranked out over 60 Durango movies. As it got into the 50's Jock Mahoney took over as Durango's stunt double. His stuntwork was legendary (Burt Reynolds' movie Hooper was based on Jock). The original plan was for Jock to take over the Durango role because Charlie was thinking about retirement but then TV bloomed and the silver screen cowboys suddenly stopped, long about '54. You can see two of the best stuntmen/horsemen at one time if you watch the old tv show The Range Rider. Jocko and Dick West were incredible together. Thanks for making this available!

I prefer that sissy Gene Autry (never could stand his singing, "I'm Back in the Saddle Again")to Durango Kid or Rocky Lane, even though I preferred Roy Rogers to Gene but beggars can't be choosy.

Let’s not forget Yakama Canutt! Started in old B movies and later was the head coordinator for the chariot race in Ben Hur ❤

Charles Starrett appeared as the Durango Kid from 1945 to 1952, when the series ended due to television competition. Starrett had made a single film as the Durango Kid in 1940. By 1945, the singing cowboys had taken over and something new was needed to pep up the series. They revived the Durango Kid character and a few films later, they brought in Smiley Burnette's whose antics had won him a raft of fans in the South. He was given his own credit screen but had to give up his nickname of "Frog" because it was licensed by Republic. He was known as Smiley in the Durango films and rode his horse Ringeye. He also added his musical talents to harmonize with whatever musical group was featured.

A light hearted song to start us off. A laugh then a bit of fists flying, followed by some gun play and murder wild west style. Then we had a us a range fire. Then we got some slap stick comedy. More gun play, and loads of deception going on. Then we top it all off with some explosions and a stampede death scene, while an avalanche of boulders that buries the rest of the bad guys. Guy gets girl back and our hero rides away to fight another day.

At about 21:05 the bystander Carl said he saw Mahoney at the window fire a shot. So that means there were TWO shots fired so he couldn't have killed the old man! Didn't the script writers do the math???!!!!
