This is very well put and making the distinction of “best vs greatest” is very important when people are making these rankings. Just like “career vs prime”. While I don’t agree with Wade being THE best, he is certainly on the short list of who comes next. If I were to take all of the players from all time at their absolute peak seasons and then rank them based on who would give you the best chance of winning a title in a league of these all time great players with todays “space and pace” style…… Wade would be a great choice but he would come after the obvious selection that trumps all positions with maybe one other person to decide between. Here are how I think the shooting guards would do: 1.M.Jordan (87’-93’) 2.D.Wade (08’-10’) 3.K.Bryant (05’-08’) 4.J.Harden (16’-20’) 5.SGA (23’-24’)*** yes I’m aware that SGA is listed as a point guard but he doesn’t play point guard. Positions don’t matter in todays era (not that they ever did) but at his size and his score first mentality, he would be matching up against the guards listed above if he played them. He would also have a point guard next to him to help him be the best scorer he can be and not worry about facilitation*** ***Tracy McGrady is a small forward IMO. He is listed at 6’8” from his rookie measurement but he said he grew and others confirm that he is closer to 6’10” with shoes on. He also already played small forward next to the likes of V.Carter, D.Wesely, B.Sura, D.Dickau etc. etc.. He would be a small forward in todays era as well ***Final comment. I think Jerry West aka “The Logo” is the second greatest shooting guard of all time. That is GREATEST, as in how they dominated against their own eras. He was the best offensive and defensive guard for a decade with only the Big O even close to his skill set. He lead the league in steals the first year they recorded which was his LAST season at over 2spg. It’s too hard to predict how a guard from that era would do in todays game. It has changed so much that he would need to get comfortable shooting at least 8 threees a game and carrying the ball while taking 4 steps as he pleases to score. That kind of muscle memory takes time so I can’t put him in the top 5 yet but he might crack that top 5 if this was a real league because his work ethic is on the same level of the Black Mamabs”

Go look at the stats. Wade played one minute more per game than LBJ and only beat LBJ in points per game (by 1.8pts) because he's taking 2 more field goal attempts per game. LBJ has him beat rebounds, assists, true shooting %, has fewer turnovers. Wade's season was amazing that's why it was so close to LBJ, but LBJ's was still better. 66 wins obviously plays a big role. If both teams had 66 wins, it could have gone either way.
