I heard this for the very first time last week (June ‘22) in a bar on a cruise ship. The band singing almost stopped as I was laughing so hard, the lead singer was being put off. Fair play to her, she name checked me afterwards. The people at the other tables couldn’t believe I’d never heard the chant before. A week later and I’m still giggling. Going to dig out the old Smokie vinyl now!

I made this my karaoke signature song. Everyone knew I was going to sing it sooner or later. They all loved it because they wanted to sing who the fuck is Alice. It didn't matter if I was in tune or way out of tune after too many pints. My final touch was to sing the last line as if I was breaking into tears. I miss those days when karaoke pubs were everywhere but now they are rarer than hens teeth. I even did it in Benidorm and got a standing ovation.

I'm only 24 so this song is a bit before my time. But I went on a cruise last spring. The average age of the cruise was about 75. As such, the music was all 70s music. Not a day went past where I didn't hear this song (and Tom Jones "Delilah"). Then in the karaoke someone chose this song. I was so shocked when the entire live lounge erupted into "ALICE! WHO THE FUCK IS ALICE!" and then I laughed my arse off and joined in for the remainder of the song! When I got back home, I searched the song and found only the Gompie version. For months I assumed that was the original. I didn't realise until a lot later that the Who the Fuck is Alice part was a later addition!
