I recently picked up one of your official Bonnie Reaper plants and I must say, I'm impressed. It was apparently well taken care of, and it's apparent that the genetics are sound. Healthy, strong, vigorously-branched plant in a bigger container than usual, with decent room for the roots. Transplanted it into one of our beds and it's settling in very nicely.

7:17 You can also use the bar tending trick to make a layered drink to water your seed pots. Put some water in a container with a pour spout like a Pyrex measuring cup and gently pour over the back of a spoon above your seeds. The water will slide off the spoon gently making contact with the outer edge of the pot first without disturbing the seeds. You need to water each cell one at a time, if you try to pour continuously across them you will uncover the seeds.

I got my hands on Caroline Reaper seeds a few years ago, and I made a mistake in handling them. I forgot to put on gloves. I handled the seeds, planted them, and at some point, touched my eye. Holy S#$% did that burn. Took a couple of days just for the oils to get off my fingers. Using the bathroom was also not a good experience.

To anyone having troubles: most of these hot plants are tropical. They hate cold water. Microwave your water until it's about 35 to 40C (body temperature). Don't water everyday. Let the top of the soil get slightly drier and lighter in color. Then water generously. Make sure no water remains in the lower catcher, ever. Give a ton of light, but avoid cold breezes near a window. Commercial bagged soil is probably sterilized or heat treated. That reduces fungus, mold, etc. Good commercial bagged soil for peppers or tomatoes will be fine.

Mornin Sunshines! I bought a Carolina Reaper Pepper Plant at Walmart here in Junction City Ks! Got it home & the top main stem was broken!!! Planted it anyway as it's really bushy. Will that interfere with its production at all? My son-in-law loves SUPER hot spicy stuff so I got it for him. He is deployed to Poland so I know he won't be here to enjoy this summer but plan to figure out how to preserve them!

Yaaaa part 2! I've got a seedling still that should hopefully kick off in the better soil. It was holding too much moisture and I don't think it was getting enough nutrients. If it gets too cold by September or October here it's coming inside anyway.

Bought a reaper plant a month ago and it doesn't seem to be growing, so I'm getting ready to transplant it again into soil mixed with earthworm castings and peat moss. It's still green, so I'm not too worried, just disheartened. Hopefully this video can help me figure out what more I can do to help things along.

Is it making flowers but dropping them before the peppers start forming? That's usually a sign of heat-stress. I haven't grown Reapers before but peppers in general tend to just stall out when it gets above 90F. Shade-cloth can be a big help during hot summer afternoons. Hand-pollinating the flowers can help a lot, too. Just take a q-tip, little tiny paintbrush, your fingertip or whatever and swirl it around in the middle of every open flower, one after another, to make sure they all get pollinated.

@@dogslobbergardens6606they could be using nothing but nitrogen rich fertilizer as well, which would boost plant growth, but not fruit growth. They might need to remove some soil and mix in phosphorus and potassium
@dogslobbergardens6606
@dogslobbergardens6606 3 жыл бұрын
@@mog_3825 good point, people often give way too much N and don't pay attention to the other macro- and micronutrients. For instance, fish emulsion is widely touted as a great all around fert, but it's really NOT. It has five times more N than P and K; that's very seldom required. It's not good as the *only* fertilizer. When in doubt, use LESS nitrogen than P and K. It's super easy to give plants a quick boost of N if they actually do start showing a nitrogen deficiency. Fish emulsion really is excellent for that application.

greetings from Colorado Ed, I've been growing mostly the big roasting peppers like Big Jims, New Mexico's, Hatch, Anaheim's, and Poblanos, I live in the southern part of the state which is considered a arid desert at a elevation of 7500 feet. I've been having problems with my Reapers in pots. they are around 24 inches tall and somewhat bushy with little or no fruit, I've been using a 3-5-18 fertilizer on my other pepper plants with great yields but not the Reapers. any suggestions. greatly appreciated. Joe.

Until night-time temps are consistently 55F or higher, I bring all my peppers inside at night. They do not like colder temps at all. If anything, err on the side of waiting until it's a little warmer. A cold-frame, plastic-covered hoop or greenhouse would give you more leeway in that regard. If you get started real late and cold autumn temps are approaching before the peppers are done ripening, you can bring them inside then too. Even if you have to dig them up to put them in pots, they'll still finish ripening up. Other than that, it's just the usual normal care and feeding. Enjoy!

I bought my CR plant from Walmart about 2yrs ago. Last year it was constantly being attacked by aphids. I used a few drops of dish soap in a sprayer bottle trying to manage it but they kept coming back. Over the winter the plant barely survived and this year started to grow again but is now getting attacked by mealybugs. Any recommendations on a better safer way to manage pests? It appears to have flower buds starting but the plant looks pretty stressed. Ps. I live on the beach in souther California and plant faces south on my front porch.
