It's just something that happens with some fish. Some bleed more than others. Tuna are excessive bleeders, and King Mackerel do it too. The hooks, the gaff, it all causes it.

Hi Brandon, we fish Chaos Rods, usually the K 15-30 series in composite. For kayaks, you may want the 15-25 rods (a little lighter). Reels are Daiwa Saltists, I think they are $199/ea. Total cost for outfit will be just over $300. - Capt Mike

Florida Sport Fishing At the moment,king and Spanish are biting everywhere until September,tarpon are abundant around the north western peninsula .Banking (bottom fishing) and trolling prove productive anywhere that the local anglers tell you about .

Also bonitos are caught year round and bluefish start to feed from October,Wahoo bite around wintertime (Oct-Apr) on the North Coast and between Chacachacare Island and Venezuela with the kings too

You can catch your own live bait including pilchards, goggle eyes and ballyhoo, depending on season and location, or you can purchase live bait from local bait boats/marinas. What inlet do you fish out of? - Capt Mike

Hello capt Mike. I enjoyed your informative video. I was thinking of making a trip to Venice for kings this fall with my kayak. I am not familliar with the gulf, or the area, I am in NC. Trying to figure when that run might be close to the beach that time of year. Any other info will be helpfull.

Gundog10mm You are referring to Venice, FL, right? That would be a long paddle on the kayak to catch kings, not impossible but you may want to target inshore/near-shiore species. - Capt Mike

Hey capt mike. I am renting a boat out for the next few days in marathon near key west. We are looking to catch anything other than deep sea so we are just here to catch some fish. Any tips on where to find good fishing? Mackeral,snapper,barracuda, and anything like that would be great. Thanks.

Liam Mohammed we generally smoke king mackerel for fish dip, though Spanish mackerel are excellent on the grill. A little too oily to fry, but certainly doable. - Capt Mike

mohamed shabrawishi Depends on the application. If I am splicing the two lines together and if the lines are the same or very close in diameter, a blood knot is fine. What exact application are you referring to? - Capt Mike

Have you ever tried handlining live baits for king mackerel with thin monofilament line?

Liam Mohammed No I have never tried that, with their sharp teeth monofilament line really isn't a viable option as they will cut you off. Capt Mike

Obviously he hasnt caught a king before but the blood is from gaffing the fish and a kingfish is bloody so the hooks are going to.make them bleed

When trolling for king mackerel, we're usually at 4-8 knots depending on if we're fishing down riggers, planers, or simply strip baits up on the surface. - Capt Mike

All my lines are 50lb and 80lb how do you light equipment withstand the owner of the strong fish

FreekickerzUSA I believe you are asking how our lighter tackle withstands the power of larger fish? First, I always make sure all of my connections (knots) are perfect. Fresh line with no nicks/abrasions is also important. Additionally, it is all in proper drag settings. As long as you have plenty of line capacity, you can tackle extremely large fish on relatively light tackle. Unless you are swordfishing/sharkfishing, there really is no reason to fish anything more than 30 lb offshore. Thanks for watching. - Capt Mike

You Americans put so much more horsepower on your boats than in Australia. A boat of that size would have a maximum of 500hp, and would easily be able to cruise at 30knots in good weather. You just overkill everything, and consume so much more than what you need.

Nick White Hi Nick, in order to achieve proper performance from our SeaVee 390, triples is a must. The boat would be way underpowered with only twin 250s. She would have a really hard time getting out of the hole and would really struggle with a full load. Many owners power this same model with quad 300s (1200 HP), however I have found that (3) 300s provides an ideal combination of speed and efficiency. Thank you for watching. - Capt Mike
