Might I suggest using Raw hemp wick to light your tobacco. Some say the butane from the lighter could affect the flavor of whatever you're smoking. Also it gives you some control of your burn in the bowl.

I remember when I tried a pipe first time. My grandfather smoked a pipe, it always interested me and I'd play with it on the table sitting around watching the news with him. I finally tried it when he was outside, only some charred tobacco in it but I did it lol. I believe I was 9 or 10. One time he said I could fill it for him if I wanted to and showed me how. I handed it to him and he took out a brand new corncob and said "this is for you, my grampa gave me my first pipe too". I said "you mean I can smoke now!?" and I filled it like he showed me. Didn't say a word as we watched Ross Perot/Bush, Wild Bill debate on CSPAN, awkwardly looking at my own pipe and taking a puff. I will never forget that day. I picked up cigarettes at 11-12 and he was astounded when I lit up a Camel instead lol.
