Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally 2023 : Part 2 : Chasing Tail : Taking The TMAX To The Dragon

I'm taking my Yamaha TMAX 500 to the infamous Tail of the Dragon, checking out a water pump that failed on my two-stroke, and enjoying the sounds of small engines.

Hi Brent... Great video! Man what a fun trip that must have been... Even with the engine troubles, which all us 2 strokers kind of expect from time to time... I am usually more surprised when my scoots don't fail when I push them hard on faster group rides... The T-Max is a BEAST! You look right at home on that thing ridding the twisties... I got a genuine laugh out loud twice in the video. I really got a kick out of how fast you caught up with the Vulcan and I think we share that keen since of direction you were telling us about... I have learned to go the opposite direction of what my gut is telling me is the right way... Seems to work... Looking forward to the actual rally... Thanks for documenting it for us.

Thank you. Yeah, I'm impressed when these racing two-strokes especially don't fail sometimes. The RC-1 has done things that I didn't think racing two-strokes did. I may disappoint on the actual rally. Spoiler alert, but I really didn't attend official events much. Regret it a bit now, but the roads are so good there that a rider can get wrapped up just enjoying the area.

Me and a few buds went to the Tail in 2012. We were riding sport touring bikes...mine was a VFR800. Two guys on Suzuki burgman 650s blew past us and we never saw them again. I couldn't believe it!! Being from the midwest we weren't fast in the turns of course...was a little embarrasing at first but 2 out of my group now own burgman 650's lol.

I looked up property nearby after I got home, but it seems like they know what they've got out there. I've looked elsewhere in TN and it was considerably cheaper than MD, but when I tried looking near the Pkwy and Dragon I saw stuff like an unfinished shed on less than a 1/4 acre for $160,000 and any sorta regular house was $300,000 or more on hardly any land. I assume with the tourism industry in the area, property gets snatched up by people/companies intending to airbnb them and such. Maybe I just looked in the wrong spots.

Positive to have air-cooled 139qmb.Idle on max,as the 4-12 000 F1 supercar-clock.Ported inlet,from 50 to 60 noozle,gets 58,56.The top needs to be fixed,ported and CHEMICO Grinding Paste to tight the valves(copper valve seat and gasket,not get so far).1 valve cost 50 000 or 500 000 dollar the best.The Regulator,Alternator or Blinker didnt cope heigthening idle rpm.Blinker is fault,rest work great.From 3.9g weiths to 4.2g.Cam-shaft cost 1 million,with slitghly angles lift,has everything say,dont exist.A7-8-9 are time its open,more or less compression.Still have SLS and Oil-Ventilator(bore hole in plastic pin).

Good question. I thought it was a Z with body work, but now I think that's wrong.
