As somebody who's only been painting for about 3-4 months, this was exactly what I needed. Nobody could explain to me clearly how to stop stark, hard lines between my highlights despite painting guides telling me to use the colours I was using, so thank you very much!

The wet blend technique is easy to understand but I struggle with it in practice. So perhaps the learning curve is the big trade off with this technique.

I was a little too afraid to try wet blending yet, since I don’t paint for that long now. However, I was trying to highlight a cloak by layering and I just couldn’t get to a point where I was satisfied with. After like 2 hours I was so mad I just slapped a new basecoat and tried a wet blend because it couldn’t get any worse. The result now is that it looks better than before. Should have tried that earlier

An old comment, I know, but I was in the EXACT same boat a few days ago, haha. I tried to layer/glaze a cloak, lost patience after 2 hours and I messed it up and it looked not as good as I wanted. I got really frustrated and actually thought about doing it again with wet blending. I simply left it as I have enough other minis to paint. Still funny to hear that you have been at the exact same point. Makes me feel a bit better and you encouraged me to try wet blending the next time I do a cloak! Thanks for your comment

Your blends look amazing. Here's a noob question for you: How do lighter colors (all the way to pure white) go with wet blending? In my (limited) experience, white dries super quick, and if I stir it around too much it goes chalky very quickly. Do you use any kind of dry-time extender or glaze medium to help?
@MiniaturesDen4 жыл бұрын
I don't use any medium, only water. When it comes to white, not all are equal, some brands do them better than others. Try using Vallejo Model Color Ivory or Kimera White next time, they'll go on much better. Also, yes, I wetblend all kinds of colors, from the darkest ones to the brightest.

Hi Luca. Great video and awesome painting. I'm new to painting and I'm actually facing many difficulties.. Yes I'm a pretty noob One.. I'd ask you, according to your experience, if It is possible to achieve a decent wet blending without the brush-licking technique, since I'm really not a fan of it. I also have a second question for you: What do you think about Vallejo dry retarder, is It useful to mix It with some part of water and then use It to build a layer on the surface to be blended? Thank you in advance and, again, YOU ROCK!!
@MiniaturesDen4 жыл бұрын
Hey there. Thank you for the kind words! To answer you questions: Yes, you can avoid licking the brush. Have a damp paper towel folded a couple of times in a corner of the wet palette and use it instead of licking the brush. Retarder can work, for sure. I never really use medium except very rarely, but if you feel like you want to try it and you get good results I'd say go for it :)

I tried wet blending and I used waaaaay too much paint it seems! But it was a big area so.... nah, no excuses, I'll do better next time!
@HashtagGamingVideos3 жыл бұрын
I tried this (I'm using Vallejo paints) and first of all, it doesn't cover properly, I see opaque spots when trying to make a layer like yours, but I think if I put more paint on my brush, that the layer will be too thick and inconsistent, so when I try it, it doesn't blend well at all and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
@MiniaturesDen3 жыл бұрын
Try thinning the paint less, it should cover more. You don't have to have too much paint on the brush, it's all about the consistency.
